Lift your chin slightly and turn your head. May sure the light is good and reflected up so your face does not cast shadows. Try to look natural and take many pictures changing the angles a bit. Do not over do the make up

Basic tips for taking good pictures: Make sure your lighting is good. The better your light, the faster your shutter will move... thus eliminating the chance that your camera moves while the shutter is open. You'll notice that most pictures taken outside on a sunny day come out great!
tip #2: Take a lot of pictures! With digital cameras, you can pretty much snap pictures all day long. Even professional photographers take hundreds of pictures and only end up chosing the best few. Practice makes perfect.

Do you have a digital camera? If so, take lots of pictures of yourself. Take pictures of yourself outdoors in bright sun, pictures of yourself on cloudy days, pictures of yourself in nature, pictures of yourself indoors in store lighting, and pictures of yourself in home lighting. (Most photographers take at least three to four rolls of film on modeling shoots, and sort through hundreds of shots before deciding on that one shot that graces the magazine cover.) Hand the camera over to an artist friend to help you get different angles and light. Then look over the lots of pictures of yourself and figure out which pose is best, which angle is best, which is your best side, etc. take pictures of yourself wearing each outfit in your closet and see what clothes look best on you. It takes a little bit of courage to do this, but the more you see yourself in pictures the easier it is to accept yourself as you are. Do you exercise regularly? If not, start working out to improve your body shape and toning. Do you eat healthy? Maybe you should change your diet to include more fruits and vegetables and less junk food. Do you smoke? Quit, and your teeth will look brighter and your eyes will look less tired. Get enough sleep. Good health will always be reflected in the mirror and in pictures. Have fun with this project. (You may find a hidden talent in portrait photography! ;)

If you have a screen on the back of your camera, stand infront of a mirror, facing the camera towards you so you can see what the picture will look like in your reflection.

Lighting, camera placement,background,subject matter,
All have a place in photos.
I would consult a photo service and see if they can recommend anything. Also try the cosmetics counter for a helpful hint on makeup.
Also try beauticians. they can help with suggestions as well

Ask one of your friends. It really isn't that hard, the camera does most of the work anyway.
