I just answered a question regarding eating PORK! then I realized that this is a great potential to pick all of your brains!
there has been great success in changing DNA in pigs ! they are very similar to humans and there is great hope in the near future that organs may be harvested so that people no longer have to suffer while being on a waiting list for an organ! I am a medical practitioner and deal a lot with transplanted patients!
if your baby or child or loved one could get a lung , a heart , a liver ,a kidney......from a pig , would you be ok with that???

If it meant saving the life of a loved one then I could care less where the organ came from.

It depends on the conscience and reasonings of the person. Some may feel that taking an organ transplant (from a human) = cannibalism and would have nothing to do with it. Others would feel that because the food that one eats doesn't become a permanent body part that organ transplantation would be ok.

Of course, you're asking about organs from animals, not other humans;nonetheless it would still depend on the conscience and reasonings one has.

In my opinion, transplantation seems to be more trouble than it's worth. There's no guarantee that the organ transplanted (weither from a pig or a human) would be accepted into someone else's body without it being attacked by WBCs. It would be better for me to cross that bridge when I get to it.

No. As medicine's history proves, any new procedure should be allowed to exist for quite some time to see what the real long term affects will be. All too often the solutions arrived at have not considered all the parameters, and as such, many people will
suffer horribly, as medical science blunders it's way through their trial and error mentality; all the while using human life as their laboritory.

It would not bother me in the least. Saving a life is just that and if the organs of a pig are compatible then so be it. However, I would not want to see a lot of pigs slaughtered just to do that so ethics wise it would be a very fine line.

A book called 'Pig heart boy' by Malorie Blackman really made me think about this idea. Many people think it is a cruel thing to do but if it was their loved one, I think the story would change. I think people can't accept that this is something that would be necessary.

No, I don't agree with testing on animals but I think that this would be the right thing to do if there was no other option, e.g. donors.

pig valves have been used for heart patients for a long time...the problem with transplants is the medicine used to force the body to accept it generally end up killing the person

The fact its a pig is not the main point.
The main point is its an animal.
Do I want an animal's heart beating in my chest?
Do I want an animal's lungs breathing in my chest?
etc.
For what?
That I may live another 5 years.
Live how?
With tubes and wires constantly wrapped around me?
It depends what the pluses are.
Sometimes death is a better decision.

Yes I would;but I still don`t eat pork LOL;because;common sense says that if you eat the meat which is seprate from the organs you will see that it has high in fat content. The organs are a totally different issue.God came out with the dietary law not to condemm us but to protect us.

Yes, I would be more than happy for myself or my family members to get an organ transplant from a pig to save their life or improve their life.

I suspect it would not be alright for Muslem's,
maybe not to not for Jews
and up to ones conscience for Christians. Some Chrsitans would object because of tampering with creation. I myself would think it over a long time and not sure what I would do.
