My grandparents were immigrants and they said so were all of our grandparents once upon a time.
Is it because we are biggets and forgot our roots, or do we just want to get rid of the people who helped make our country because they remind us of who we are and where we come from?

There are already plans in the works to end the wet foot dry foot policy when Castro dies. Bush has indicated it will normalize relations on immigration which will include more family type immigration and less wet foot dry foot type immigration, just like Mexico. It isn't Mexico that is treated unfairly. Even with this provision more are let in legally from Mexico than from any other country in the world. However, the Cuba situation is unique to them; Haiti doesn't get it either. It is born of cold war politics and is due to be rethought.

And your point is? 400 years people starterd immigrating to the US. Does that mean that we forever have to let people immigrate? Only 100 years ago most of America had "outdoor" facilities..should we go back to that? 200 years ago when you got hungry you took your rifle and went and got some game. Should we go back to that? Times change and we have to change with it.

When you turn on the water in your bathtub do you continue to let the water run because that is what you did five minutes ago or do you say 5 minutes ago the bathtub was empty, now it is full turn the water off?

Don't try to cloud the issue by trying to lump all the ILLEGAL ALIENS together with those that desire to immigrate legally. There are 30 million illegal aliens in this country. They are sucking us dry.

Oh and just so you know. Most Americans were born here and so were their grandparents.

Because we fear change. Anything that interferes with our routines, we fear.

Now the current anger is tword's illegal immigrants.

This is like having a pool in your yard and a big front door, and those you don't let in, climbing in through windows and jumping the fence to be in your pool.

But they never leave, and have needs, such as bathroom and health and food needs, and have no provisions for such needs, so you have to supply them.

Most immigrants come here with no money and no prospects for money. But over time become productive members of society.

Some are sponsored and have help from within the us.

With the illegals, they come here broke, take low paying jobs, send money back and bring more broke illegals, who do the same. And we never get a better standard of living,

Then they have a child here, who is considered natural born. Then they ALL can use the social security number to get welfare, schooling, health, and we the taxpayer get to pay for it.

as a result it leaves less money for the taxpayer to live on, and it overburdens the whole system with having to pay for more people than are supporting the system.

Chances are, your grandparents are legal immigrants, and were allowed in, and changed to the american way.

The current illegals are wanting to change to the illegals way of life instead of conforming to the american way.

I personally don't understand how an illegal citizen can have a child here, and suddenly that child is legal.
If your illegal, your child is an illegal natural born citizen. But still illegal.

But back on the subject,

The laws are not being enforced on immigration , so the people are mad. This is why you get the latest "hatred".

We want immigrants who look like us. If your grandparents came from Great Britain or Western Europe, you prefer to see immigrants who are coming from the same place. Immigrants from Asia or the Middle East don't look like you, don't act like you, don't eat the same food you do and they don't dress like you. Theymight not speak English very well. So because we are all ethnocentric to some degree, we tend to think that immigrants who don't resemble us aren't as good as we are.

That goes for any society. A lot of families from the Indian sub-continent immigrated to Uganda and then were forced to leave. Many of them came to North America. Because they were demonstrably "different" from the local people in Uganda, they were not accepted into society.

Years ago, the Irish immigrants had the same problem. They were "dirty", had accents, were "common" or "low-class". They were discriminated against. There were signs "No Chinese, dogs or Irish". But now, a couple of generations later, their descendants are part of mainstream culture. Same with the Germans, the Ukranians, the Italians -- when a wave of "foreigners" comes, it's always bad for the first generation. And it can be bad for 2 or 3 generations if you mix colour into the situation.

Nova Scotia has a large community of black people who have been in the province for many generations. They are still discriminated against and many white people assume that they are newcomers to Canada -- even though their families may have lived in the province far longer than the people who are complaining.

Things that are different are always a little frightening at first. And people are afraid of a lot of silly things -- that their property values will go down if "those people" move in next door, that their children will be corrupted by different values, that they will become the minority in their community ... all kinds of things.

The best way to combat that thinking is to exert yourself to make friends with newcomers to your neighbourhood. It's harder to fear someone who has become your friend.

And of course, for newcomers, it's pretty scary too. They are surrounded by strangers doing strange things in strange ways. Many immigrants retreat into their own communities and become even stricter with their children in an effort to protect them from these new values. Newcomers need to be willing to leave many of their more extreme beliefs back in the old country and work hard to become part of their new country.

Actually, I think the US likes immigrants. I just don't think we like the fact that people are crossing the border illegally, while thousands from other countries wait for years to immigrate legally.

Our forefathers NEVER thought that immigration would evolve to disastrous porportions.
I mean get a reality check.

The immigrants today come here with little or no education, speak zero English, have zero cash, and have zero freaking job skills.

They work lousy jobs, keep to themselves, sometimes don't pay taxes, get their kids educated for free, get free health care and send their leftover cash back to where they came from.
1. ASK these foreigners if they plan on becoming US Citizens.
2. ASK these foreigners if they love America and support this country that took them in.
3. ASK these foreigners if they plan to learn to speak English.
4. ASK them if they wish to contribute in a POSITIVE way to help improve America.

Immigrants have changed since the days of the Constitution. The ones who come here now don't give a crap about what they can GIVE to America. They only care about what they can GET from America.

Dude, this is WRONG! This is NOT who we are and where we came from.

Calm down. We do not want to get rid of Immigrants, we want to stop those ILLEGAL Aliens from coming into our country and raping it of all its resources to the tune of 69 Billion dollars a year. It's the illegals that are causing the problem.

Who has said anything about not liking immigrants, we do not like, nor will ever like illegal aliens. Come to the U. S. A., legally or not at all.

I think your mistaking Immigrants for illegal immigrants. the ones who commit crimes to get here as opposed to the ones who go through the channels and come here to are open arms.

I don't have a problem with immigrants. Legal ones, that is. I have a huge problem with illegals though. Kind of have this thing about obeying the law and all.
