When you think about it, what does your dog need from its food in order to be healthy?
Today our pets have a wide variety to meet their tastes and needs and we have our choice of what kind of food we can choose to feed them. Despite the variety, pet foods usually fall into three major categories. These categories are: Grocery store foods, these types of dog and pet foods are usually found in grocery stores and mass marketed retailers and can contain lower quality, less expensive ingredients. The second category is "premium dog foods," which can also be found in grocery's stores but are also found in pet stores and through your local veterinarian's office. These types of foods are usually made from some higher quality ingredients and are usually made evident by the expense of the food. Some of these pet foods though can contain lower quality ingredients that you aren't aware of. The third and final category is homemade dog food.More and more people are beginning to make their dog's food at home rather than buying commercial formulas. Homemade dog food doesn't contain any substances that could possibly be harmful to your dog's health such as artificial coloring and artificial flavors.
Another reason to make homemade dog food is the preservatives added to the commercial dog food. Homemade dog food has the benefit of optimum freshness without preservatives.
There are dogs that would greatly benefit from a homemade diet. Some dogs who suffer from allergies that cause severe itching may find relief once switched from commercial dog food to a homemade diet.
Processed dog food is a relatively new product and scientists don't fully understand the differences between commercial food and a diet of fresh food. There may be problems occurring in a dog's health because he is being given food that has had the nutrients cooked out of it and then sprayed back on.
Would you like to prolong the quality and length of your dog's life by 135%?You should keep your dog healthy by homemade dog food.

I feed my dogs a strictly raw diet.YES feeding a dog raw chicken is totally and udderly safe, not only that, the marrow the dog gets from the bone is incredibly healthy form them. Feeding a dog COOKED chicken however IS dangerous. cooking the chicken makes the bones become brittle, so they break and can damage intestines. (mostly chicken, but other organ meats and sometimes red meats as well) This is the only way to insure your dog does not get poisoned. Many people (including some vets) would argue against raw feeding. But have you ever seen a dog in the wild eat kibble? or break into a four mill and eat the flour and grains? how about a corn field? Dogs eat raw, it's what their body's were made for. It's a mistake on the human part to say that dogs should only eat "dog food" meaning kibble. "dog food" is raw food.
After swiching my dogs to raw food, they are happier, their teeth are clean (no brushing) with no tartar or yellow ness, their coats are nice, and raw actually helps act as a natural heartworm and flea preventitive.
I highly recommend feeding your dog raw. do some research!

High Quality Food, or Human Grade Food. High Quality Foods: Canidae Innova Evo Merrick Orijen These foods can be found at local pet food stores, and cost a bit more, but you feed much less, so you save money. You dog will also be healthier. Human Grade Food: A raw diet. This consists of raw, meaty bones. When fed right, its the best diet for dogs. There is also pre-packaged raw diets, like Bravo, which is usually sold at local pet stores along with the High Quality packaged foods. And yes, I read that article before, and its all true, which is why I switched dog foods. My dogs are much healthier now. When you switch to a High Quality food, your dog may go through detox. This is normal. Give your dogs a couple of months to adjust and watch them become healthy. Edit: Um, Ol Roy is the WORST dog food, ever. It is pretty much cardboard. It is the example of that article.

On my profile there is a site for all the dog & cat foods recalled, most have been removed from the shelves & don't use anything with Wheat Glutin listed in the ingredients, even the more expensive & vet foods have been recalled, but the list is big so check the site & the ingredients on the food, there is also a site for making healthy, balanced treats, dog foods, etc. Also the best dog foods are the one's that say 100% nutritionally complete, not just complete but a 100% !!! Take Care :)

If you want to feed a kibble these days (dry dog food) you will be safest to purchase kinds that have no grain in them. First this isn't healthy for dogs even when it contains no toxins, but the grain is where the toxins are in the current problem.
Wysong and Natures Variety are two brands that are worth looking into, but you may have to order them because they are not usually in stores.
Most people are switching to raw meals or cooked meals for cats and dogs these days. I am feeding a combo of the two brands above and raw meat.
I would definitely think about preparing natural foods for your dog, and even learn more about raw diets. My pets thrive on them and they clear up a lot of challenging problems like allergies, too.

#1 DO NOT feed them any food that contains Wheat Gluten plain and simple because this whole problem was traced to a single point of distribution in China where the chemical Melamine got into the food and went out to 100's of brands worldwide......but remember ONLY in the wheat gluten, so all you have to do is choose any of the dry foods that don't have this ingredient! Also you can check the recall list of each manufacuturere on their websites.

Yes,
Most dog foods are save. But you might want to keep them
on a diatedic dog food. Low fat, low protein. Try to incor-
perate a real bone in their diet. The calsium will be good for them. Also it will help clean their teeth and gums. Alot better than the raw hides.
Hope this helps.

Just today I went out and bought my 12 1/2 week old Lab puppy Purina Pro Plan Chicken and Rice. I have been giving my puppy Purina Rice and Lamb but I have been having to drive a hour one way to get it. So I have changed to Purina Pro Plan Chicken and Rice.
I have not heard anything about Purina Pro Plan being on the recall list. My puppy has had no problems as of yet.
I do understand how scary it is going out to buy food. You just do not know which one to buy.
Good Luck!!
P.S. I really do like Purina Pro Plan though!! It is good for their digestive systems.

I bought Wellness brand yesterday, because Purina never got back to me as to where their grain ingredients came from and whether they had tested them. Wellness doesn't have any of the recalled ingredients so I will use it until I am sure other foods are safe. It's more expensive, but cheaper than kidney failure.
