I am part of an casting company so I know about auditions and the deal and am part of an extras agency, but I'm not sure whether or not I need to bring a parent with me to the set. I don't believe so, but you never know. . .

Minors 9-16 years when school is in session may be at the place of employment for up to nine hours, the sum of five hours work, three hours schooling, and one hour of rest and recreation. When school is not in session, work time may be increased up to seven hours, with one hour of rest and recreation [8 CCR 11760].

All minors aged 6 mos.-16 years must be provided with one studio teacher for each group of 10 or fewer minors when school is in session, and for each group of 20 or fewer minors on Saturdays,
Sundays, holidays, or during school vacations [8 CCR 11755.1]. In addition to the studio teacher, a parent or guardian must always be present.

Minors aged 16-18 years when school is in session may be at the place of employment for up to 10 hours, the sum of 6 hours work, 3 hours schooling, and 1 hour of rest and recreation. Studio teachers need only be present for the minors’ schooling. A parent or guardian need not be present

Confused still, which is right?

It's doesn't have to be a parent, just a guardian. Your parent or legal guardian may be able to make arrangements with another parent who plans to stay on set the whole time to be your 'set' guardian or even ask the set teacher to do the job. They can even hire someone to be your guardian. Maybe your parent can plan to go with you the first time or two and see if you can make fast friends with someone :-)

You definitely, definitely have to have a guardian co-sign your contracts. At your age, you probably don't need them on-set, but this might vary from studio to studio. Be sure to look for it in your contract.

Yes you do. By law if you're under 18, a guaridan must accompany you while you are acting.

Good luck, and congratulations.

AND BE CAREFUL.
