what happens at a head doc?

I have to go see a head doc. Monday afternoon for depression. I am kinda scared. What should I expect. Whats going to happen there. I dont like talkin to people I know how is talking to a stranger going to help?

Talk about whatever you want to talk about. They're just listening to the tone of your voice and the things that you're saying and how you're saying them. They put it all together and analyze later.
Since it's your first time, they will probably ask more questions, like why do you think you're depressed (asking for symptoms) and is there a reason for this? Is there a history of depression in your family? Just breathe and do as they say to make better use of your time. Sometimes talking to someone who doesn't know you outside of those four walls helps you than talking to people you know, who may hold your feelings against you.

The doctor will first "acclimitize" you to the room...let you get comfortable, stuff like that. Doc will then ask you questions to build up a clinical picture. He (or she) will question you about money, politics, your parents and siblings, your dreams, etc, trying to learn about the factors that shape your personality. You may be given a personality inventory ( a test about yourself with questions like "Do you start fires?" "Do you shoplift?" "Do you hate Art Carney?"), or you may be asked lots of weird and repitious-seeming questions.
The doctor may require several sessions to make a diagnosis and treatment plan. You will likely be given prescriptions for meds to reduce anxiety.
