Yeah, I never got that one. I notice if there's a speck of dust in my eye...
Edit: I see the problem now - as the people below have been so kind as to point out, this is one of the bits you're meant to take as a metaphor! I understand why I didn't get the memo, but I'm surprised you didn't Mr Burn...

Did you fall of the wagon, your Q as posted sounds like the ramblings of a drunkard.
from the other answers I have determined the intent, and their rebuttals to your defective argument. It is far easier to see/point out the minor flaws in others than it is to see the major flaws in ourselves. What did it take for you to realize you had an issue with alcohol? and while you were sailing the seas of Rum did you ever once call someone on a lie they told or 'sin' they committed, all the while being drunk or intending to get there soon that's what it means, that you could take issue with their flaws and still be flawed yourself, 'let the one with out sin cast the first stone' every one was ready to condemn the 'adulteress' but when posited that they too were sinners they saw the error of their harsh judgment. let us not forget also "Judge not, lest ye be judged."
Christ spoke in metaphor and parable to help relate and the comparing of a splinter to a log was an exaggeration designed to show that some of the loudest cries for punishment of sins often come from worse sinners hoping that by screaming louder no one would see that they were worse than the person being persecuted at the time.
Have you ever seen "Stalag 17" a classic film set in WWII starring William Holden and Peter Graves ( You should see it). Its set in a POW camp, and Holden plays the camp 'scrounge',Septon. He barters and trades and stockpiles a healthy supply of contraband. When an escape attempt is thwarted he is the prime suspect. Everyone assumes the escape info was one of the things he traded for his stash. the rest of the barracks takes 'justice' into their hands, jump him from behind, and beat him up one night.
After the beating, he calls them all on their rush to judgement, and says something on the lines of "You all took your swings and got 'revenge', but the real traitor, he hit me just a little bit harder than the rest of you, so their wouldn't be any doubt about how loyal he was to them." thats teh sentiment, I haven't watched it recently or often enough to quote it that well.

they say that Obama's supporters are college knowledgeable. definite, lots of his white supporters & a number of his black ones are nonetheless in college, or those days graduated. maximum faculties lean quite frequently to the left and scholars have a tendency to take heed to their professors. even as they change into older, they study the thanks to take heed to their senses somewhat. Obama has the more youthful vote to boot because the black vote & maximum childrens as we talk bypass on to school, even dumb ones. on the winning time, that's difficult to locate a job with no college practise. My element? In my mom's time, very few human beings went to school, except they were rich. It wasn't a need then, and many did no longer have the probability, they needed to bypass to paintings, get married and raise households proper after HS. that would not cause them to stupid or uneducated. i will inform you one element: My mom can run circles round maximum of those college young ones, she would not favor a calculator to do math or stability her examine e book or keep on a respectable funds. even as she is going procuring, she seems at her receipt and grants the full in her head to make positive she's charged the right volume and were given the right replace. She is acquainted with what number states there are contained in the u . s . a . and the capital of each state. She is acquainted with her American and international historic previous, she is acquainted with the position Iraq, Iran and Burma are positioned and the version between a Shiite and a Suni, and many different issues that a number of those young ones do not actually have an theory of, plus she has her existence-getting to recognize memories to boot! Hillary's base is made out of many seniors similar to her.

These words were written by someone else, but they might as well be my own. I've made them mine.
Every time I fall down on my face
I see the one who bore all my shame
To know that you are everything I need you to be
You're my ever present help in time of need
I know you understand it all
So why don't I get back on my feet again
Every pain I feel inside my heart
It takes a faith I know I can't depart
To know that you hear every cry I raise to you
Bringing thoughts of hope the words I bring I know are few
I know you understand it all
So why don't I get back on my feet again
You hear me when I call
You're there when I fall
You hear me when I call
I know you understand it all
So why don't I get back on my feet again

Obviously someone didn't take 6th grade english where they explain the use of metaphors in language...
Just so you know, ANYONE CAN USE CAPS TO ACCENTUATE WORDS, it doesn't take much really, just hold down Shift key or hit the Caps Lock.
The idea is not being a hypocrite, Christ was talking about not being quick to judge someone for stealing a stick of gum when you just robbed a bank. First you should admit to robbing the bank, then reprimand the other person for stealing the stick of gum.
For people who are so educated, you would think those that are skeptics of the Bible would understand the use of literary devices.

Shame? Okay. You do understand the verse, why not explain it then? Rather than ranting? Remember, you have all walks of life, and if you fell shame for the ignorant bretheren, explain it to them. Most of us I think have e-mail you know.

you don't have a clue what the passage means, do you? are you really that dense? It's an analogy. It means to look to your own problems before you try and fix someone else. Maybe you should take that advice. And you're calling believers STUPID? take a look in the mirror, my friend.

It SOUNDS ridiculous, yet I come across people here every day who seem to have whole forests in their eyes. You would think their prejudice and error would be completely obvious, but to them it apparently isn't.
And maybe that's the point of the saying, neh?

But can you see the plank? You know its there but it has blinded that eye and you cannot see it. Look deeper than the surface of words...
"It is easier to see a splinter in someone else's eye than a plank in yours..."
That says nothing about you knowing it's there, it means that when someone is doind something wrong, you are quick to judge them and can see their tiny faults, but can't even see your big ones....
Does this make more sense to you?
"Clean out your own backyard, before you tell me what's wrong with mine..."
