Love has always been .Not an emotion, but as a living entity. When you peel away all the veneers we well meaning, but ignorant humans have hidden real true love with, you have pure love and nothing else. Love always has been, is, and always will be. It has no beginning or ending. Love is all there is. This is a mystery to most (we're waking up) and as long as you keep your mind open and free of dogma you will understand love in it's pure form.

Many animals have emotions just like humans. Emotions are an evolutionary survival strategy. It can make you angry to attack (the first line of defense) or to fight back, or afraid to make you flee or hide. Your response is largely dependent of what you did see your parents and other people do, when you were still a small kid, because then the most of your connections are made in you brain. If your mother screams for every spider or mouse when you are small, you will very likely never feel comfortable around spiders and mice, even when you would be 100% sure they are totally harmless.
Love, or better said "being in love" is an emotion, made by chemicals and electrical pulses in your brain, signaling that the counter party is very likely to be genetically compatible with your genes. Pheromones can also play a great role in steering your emotional decisions, especially when interacting with other people.
The unconditional love from mother to child also has an evolutionary reason. If mothers hate their children, the kids won't grow old. If people hurt and kill each other all the time, it's not good for the human species. Just like most animals don't just kill each other, unless they are pray, a threat, or offspring of a rival male. Many animals, also humans share their food to be able to grow a larger community. Larger communities are better protected, and if one falls to pray, it's not an evolutionary problem, because the species doesn't go extinct, as there are still many left.
If you want to know how the brain (including electrical and chemical systems) have come to what they are now in our brains, you'll have to do some thorough studying in the functioning of the brain itself. But mainly it developed just because some reactions and responses in some cells had an advantage over not having those things. All evolutionary changes are random DNA changes. Some are for the good, most wont even be noticed, or only may differ the shape of your nose for example, and some are for the bad. What is good and bad is dependent on the environment the species is in at that moment.

Chemical reaction in the brain linked to survival of the species

Editted Answer: Emotions reside in the part of the brain that is tied to the automatic functions linked to vertebrate life, like resperation. Neuroscientists think that we "feel" them by attaching thoughts to the physical sensations that come naturally to us. That is why our hands and feet get cold, and we get goosebumps, when we are afraid. The brain has the blood leave the area so that, if we are attacked, we can run with less physical pain in our feet. They have a similar explanation for love, and other emotions, that we feel because they see evidence of such in animals.

As for your second question, I have no idea "who" created the brain to feel the sensations, and I do not see love as a function of "Intelligent Design", not because I want to argue with you, but because it makes no sense to me, just as my answer makes no sense to you.

There is a study which says that, in 90% of the people, a section of the brain can be manipulated to create an experience wherein they feel a presence in the room that they call God. They feel very comforted after it happens. The other 10% has no experience, and feels nothing thereafter.

I respect (and support) your right to believe as you wish (if fact I encourage love in anybody and you sound like you are a kind person), but I probably fall into the 10%. I am hard wired to think the way I do.

Ok, this is difficult to explain in everyday terms, but I will try.

Love is a reflection of God's character. It's not that love was made, but rather that love just reflects that which is essential to the nature of God.

God could not have chosen Love to be any different than what it is, because it would run contrary to what his own nature is. God is limited by his own nature, so therefore you can say that there are some things that God cannot do.

For instance, God cannot sin, it is impossible, God is holy and just, and sin cannot be a part of him. God cannot flood the earth again to destroy all life. God is truth, and he promised Noah and all of his descendants that he would never again flood the earth, so since God is true, there is no way he could flood the earth again completely.

In the same way, God is love, and what people don't realize, or want to realize, is that part of love is justice and discipline. You love your child when you discipline them. "Spare the rod spoil the child" is not telling us to use a metal rod to beat our children, it is warning us to discipline our children lest they become brigands and outlaws who scoff at what is good.

Love is so many things, it is peace, comfort, understanding, compassion, justice, discipline, and so much more, and Love comes from the very nature of who God is, God cannot be anything but what He is, a Loving, True, Wrathful, Just, Holy God.

The bible says that God is love and that all good things come from Him. In fact all God's commands are based on love. Love toward God and our fellow man.Our refusal to love God and our fellow man is the reason this world is such a messed up place. Love is good, kind and seeks always to do good to others. It's what life is all about.

It's been my observation that love and emotion was first displayed by God. I therefore would point to Him as being the inventor or source of love.

He promised death for disobedience. And yet to those who did disobey, He offered a way out of death. I think that has to be love. Definitely love over anger. Wouldn't you say the same?

All emotions are the result of physiological changes in your brain. They serve important evolutionary functions.
The modern concept of love is mostly a social construct. You really feel it, but partly because you've been taught to.
