He sounds like a wonderful dog whatever he is. It's kind of fun to guess at mixes. You can make up your own "designer dog" name. Maybe he is a Labradoodle? Some labs have purple spots on their tongue, so do Golden Retrievers. Get him neutered and you really have a "one-of-a-kind" dog.

It is a good possibility that this dog is a mix of chow and lab, but has the appearance of a lab. I have a mix lab myself, he's 1/2 lab and 1/2 Shepard, but has the appearance of the Shepard, the attitude of the Shepard and the drooling of the lab. But to be absolutely sure, take the animal to a vet, they can run a DNA test on him and give you a more accurate breed.

Be sure to take it to the vet (Just in case, y'know?) and also put a lost and found ad in your local newspaper. Black labs can get pretty big, without a pedigree there's probably no way to know for certain. My own dog is mostly Husky but I suspect there was a smaller dog involved somewhere along the line.

Highly doubtful that he's a direct descendant of a Chow Chow (p.s Ainu & Shar Peis also have a blue tongue as a breed characteristic. Chow Chows aren't the only ones).
Perhaps you could provide a picture?

I have a mixed chow and lab. his tongue, does have bluish purple spots on it, his hair is a bit fussy, but he looks and acts just like a larador, he is six years old, and my best friend, he weighs about 90 lbs, I love him dearly.

Just sounds like you already love the dog & are taking good care of him, just love & have fun with him, it don't matter what breed he is :) Lots of dogs have spots on their tongues, Chows have all blue tongues !!!

Without a photo, it is impossible to tell. Half the time with a photo, it's impossible to tell. The sad truth is that you have a mutt. By any other name, its still a mutt. I am not saying that in a bad way. What is sad is that people do not spay and/or neuter their dogs and let them breed producing more and more mutts which over crowd our shelters.

I could never tell without seeing him. I've fostered over 75 dogs so I'm pretty good at telling what a mix is.
