Fred Phelps is a fundie who says he will picket the funerals of the Virginia Tech shooting victims, to make his point - expressing his displeasure over what he sees wrong with America. What do other fundamentalists think of his behavior?

I have known fundies who are polite compassionate people. There must be many fundies in America who do not approve the cruelty of the Fred Phelps people. Why aren't they speaking out?

Isn't Fred Phelps bringing serious discredit on the rest of America's fundamentalists? I don't know how they might restrain him, but if his fellow-fundies cannot bring him under control, who will?

There are people like Pat Robertson who claim to speak for the fundamentalist fringe - if not for the Almighty himself. What have any of them said publicly to distance themselves from these fanatics who claim they speak for God and act out their fantasies by waving offensive placards in the faces of grieving people at funerals?

According to Phelps' belief system, Jesus Christ would be in hell since Jesus broke bread and congregated with sinners.

Hopefully the state might do like many others have and make laws against protesting at people's funerals. Kansas (where Phelps is from) already has one in play.

I don't think we should lump the Phelps' in with fundamentalists. They are ANYTHING but true Bible-believing fundamentalists. They do not follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, and I don't see how they can call themselves true Christians. They say they read the King James version of the Holy Bible, but I'm reading the same version, and I don't see anything about persecuting homosexuals, Jews, soldiers, Amish, Swedish, VT students, or anyone else. Jesus said to "Love Thy Neighbor."

i'm no longer judging them. yet i don't recognize ways they could call themselves Christians. we are meant to reveal love and Jesus' forgiveness. they offer us a nasty call. i'm a good Christian and am horrified by way of their beliefs. Phelps and his followers teach no longer something yet hate. i replaced into gazing a number of their interviews. it truly is scary. i imagine they're extra of a cult. they have each and each of the features. I pray for them. it truly is scary the way they depict issues and they say they're the in straightforward words ones going to heaven. How can one bypass everywhere close to God with all that detest human beings teach? Please pray for them and others that percentage their perspectives.

I can't imagine any religious group taking that wacko into the fold. He is a psycho bent on his own delusions of granduer and choosing the most dispicable places to promote his "cause", which isn't religious at all--it's self-serving dogma that has no true charity of spirit that is basic to all religions (in theory, of course).

Jesus was crucified for his beliefs. Who are we to condemn Fred Phelps? Perhaps he has been chosen by God. His actions do seem to resemble those of the Prophets of old. God is punishing America and he is merely trying to warn us before it is too late.
