not enough to have any impact on weight loss if thats what you are getting at. knitting is considered a sedentary activity and while its better for you than just plopping down in front of the tube all day, there's a reason why it is taken up among old people. (i.e it is not a strenuous activity) only strenuous activities burn significant amounts of calories. as to how many you burn in an hour of knitting...i would guess in the ball park of 40

How fast you knit. How long you knit. I think its something like 20 calories extra an hour so not that high.

Only your hands do some work in knitting and since your hands relatively much less compared to your legs, the calorie expenditure is much less compared to walking. Running and swimming are far more effective as exercises for calorie expenditure.

About as much as sitting in front of the tv. Everything we do burns off calories, even sleeping, just not many calories. If this is your excercise program you won't get anywhere with it.

unless you do it whilst on a treadmill. may be a bit difficult though.
