My kitten went from being extremely shy to the complete opposite. The adjustment has been a little hard for me. I kind of miss him being a little more shy around me, to be honest. It can be really annoying when I'm home doing something on the computer and he'll all of a sudden jump on me. I haven't figured out a way to get him to stop doing this. Sometimes also I'm just hanging out on the couch and he'll jump on the couch. I don't always want him on the couch with me. What can I do?

While I don't agree with hitting. I think a little bit of fear is a good thing. Especially with cats and dogs. They should fear you at least a little bit. I'm not exactly sure how to go about getting the cat to listen to me and understand when I don't want him to do something.

He just thinks you're great. However i remember how annoying this stage was.
Kittens respond well to scruffing as their mothers would do to chastise them or remove them from danger. Gently pick your kitty up by the large amount of skin at the back of his neck and put him where you want him to go.
The other option is the water bottle sprayer. Rinse out VERY thoroughly an old cleaning bottle (mr muscle, window cleaner, vanish etc.) and fill with tap water. When kitten is jumping where he shouldn't spray a fine mist from the bottle in his direction. It doesn't hurt, but they don't like it. They soon get the message.
(Incidentally, you need to do the spray at the precise moment that he's doing something wrong, otherwise they don't associate the unpleasentness with the action and then they just think your mean.)

The kitten likes you and wants the companionship so that's why he is jumping on you. My cat sits on the monitor and tries to catch the cursor, or tries to get between me and the keyboard, which I think is funny. However, when I really want to get something done I shut the door. If you're on the couch, you can try hugging the cat a lot. Many cats do not like this and will start to avoid the hugger. To discipline a cat use a squirt bottle of water. Say "NO" and give a small squirt in the face. Later on you will only need to say no and show them the bottle. However, there is no "don't always" with a cat. It's either "always" or "never". They don't understand other concepts. However, they usually become more reserved when they get older.

haha, wait until you have children - this is basic training for your patience levels! He wants your attention. Get some toys and play with him - some rolled up pieces of paper thrown across the floor and an empty carboard box should keep him occupied for a little while. Enjoy, have fun and nuture :)
I almost went out of my mind for the first month I had my kitten. It wouldn't stop jumping on me, my legs were scratched to bits. Just hold and pat it gently so it doesn't learn to respond to any kind of aggressive behavior and it can't be trained like a dog. There's nothing much you can do to train it at this young age. You just have to be patient, firm and gentle and wait for it to grow up.

he's a kitten. he is just acting like a kitten, sorry to tell you. they like to run and jump and play, it is part of how they grow up and also part of how they train themselves how to be cats. if you are the only thing he has to play with, then he is going to use you for his playtime and training time. get him some toys or a companion. dude, you have a kitten. that's how they are. they are going to jump on you. all you can do is toss them back off when they do. he'll get quiet again when he gets a little older.

Well he loves you for one thing and wants to see you and be around you. Well to make him stop you just pick him up off the couch or where ever you are and set him on the floor. And if that doesn't work then start picking him up by the scruff and set him down. Hope this helps.

I have a cat that sleeps on my bed but she started walking all over me. So I pick her up and put her on the floor. Most of the time she would stop but if she didn't I locked her out of my door. She got the message. Just push them of it might take some time but they will figure it out. But try petting him and giving him some attention that might just be what he wants.

Gently push him off each time he jumps. Being a kitten he will learn.
