Do they fear reprisal from terrorists, and accusatins of shaming the Islamic faith?

My "islamophobia" was founded for myself during trips to the following places and seeing "true" Islam in action:

Iraq
Kuwait
Qatar
*USA to some degree, although they don't beat women on the streets here like they do over there.

How is mainstream Islam supposed to get their voice heard?
They are not allowed to in most arab countries. They have no stage here to do it. Some of them do openly put down the fundamentalists, it's just it doesn't get known, or widespread.
