how do i find my animal totem?

i think my animal totem is a wolf. i've felt a particular attachment to wolfs since i was little, i dream about them a lot. i am very much drawn to them but, still, i can't be sure. it feels right, but is there any way to find out? can you tell me about animal totems in general?

The plural is wolves. I don't know nothing about totem poles though.
