I went to sleep at about 12:45 last night and woke up at about 3:40. I was just laying on my pillow thinking, when all of the sudden it felt like something hit me in the head really hard. I've had concussions from football and been in a car crash so it kind of felt like that.
It hit me hard and then slowly wared off over about 5 seconds. I almost lost consciousness but I managed to stay awake. My first thought was that maybe a tree hit the house but it didn't. Then I thought maybe earthquake, but nothing had falling off my shelves and everyone else in the house (including my dogs) were still asleep. My only other guess is that maybe I had a seizure or something. I was so spooked I didn't get back to sleep for another hour. Can anyone help me?

Go to hospital and see if its a medical problem?
Are you on any new prescribed medication? Maybes its a side effect?

When I was in high school, I had seizures... I am not a doctor, and only a doctor... maybe a neurologist.. can accurately diagnose you... but what you describe sounds a lot like the periodic seizures I had while in high school. I had taken a couple of blows to the head back then, and I suspect that is what eventually led to the seizures... I was on Dilantin for about 3 or 4 years, and then the docs tapered me off of it. I have not had trouble with seizures since.

When I was laying down, it would feel like something was clamping down on my head... and I felt very nauseous.

Call your physician and make an appointment. If you've had head injuries, this could be the problem... or something worse. Get it checked out!

That sounds serious, especially with your history of head injuries. How's your blood pressure? Blood sugar? Better get checked out. Could have been a seizure, or an isochemic attack (ministroke).

sweetie there are many things that could have caused this pain. see a nuerologist asap, it may have been a hemmorage, or something else serious. I dont think it was a seizure, but the only thing you should be worried about right now is getting to that Neurologist asap!!!!

maybe you woke up in the middle of the night and you were not fully awake and your body went into its beta state of sleep which is A DEEPER STAGE OF SLEEP WHICH CAN HAPPEN WHEN YOU ARE ACTUALLY AWAKE IF IT WAS MORE OF INTERNAL PAIN OR PRESSURE THAT COULD BE IT AND THE FEELING OF LOOSING COUNSININESS WAS YOUR BODY TRYING TO REACH SLEEP AGAIN BUT YOU ACTUALLY FOUGHT TO STAY AWAKE. DURING BETA SLEEP YOU CAN ALMOST LOOSE CONTROL OF YOUR FUNCTIONS LIKE NUMBNESS
