How many months can I live on $10000 US dollars while I look for a job? Also don't have a place of my own so I'd have to rent plus food and other expenses.

US $10,000 = 11,229.50 canada dollars

I would figure depending on your expenses 4-6 months.
Try to get a job as soon as possible.

First off, where are you planning to move in Canada? The cost of living, taxes, rental rates etc. vary depending on where you will be. As well, jobs are more readily available in different places according to what sort of job you are looking for. What does your visa allow for? It's hard to tell you without more information. I'd guess anywhere from 3-6 months depending on location and incidental expenses without any other source of income.

The very first thing you need to know is that you cannot just pickup and move to Canada from the U.S. You will FIRST have to complete the immigration process, which will take 1-3 years and cost you about $1,200 in application fees and associated costs.

There are various classes of immigration, and it sounds like "skilled worker" would be the one you would be applying for. There is a self assessment tool on the webpage to assist you in seeing if you are eligible. You will need to have either a work visa or permanent resident status in order to get a job.

As far as monthly expenses, in general, daily living costs are about 35% more in Canada than in the U.S., including food.
