Why not, but should take care that roots were not damaged, while removing or when replanting. Replant should be done as early as possible, without exposing the leaves to dry.

I guess you can. The size will determine how well it will re-establish. Normally tree roots grow to what is called the waterline, this how far the limbs reach out.
I know this not completely true, but, I tell people; "What you see above the ground, is what is under the ground".
When I transplanted trees in landscaping, I did this on a cloudy day as I feel the roots fair better and I keep them wet. I had a man I sub and he had a Tree Planting Truck. Before he stick it in the ground I look at how well the roots were as many will get chopped off when digging up. Then, after the tree was planted and supported, I Trim/Prune the limbs to look good, but, also, compensate for lost roots.
You can contact your local County Extension Office and they may be able to help you know more. It a free service in most cases as it Tax Supported.
Just remember, the larger the tree, the less your % of survival, but, it can be done with great success.

Yes. I have a transplanted navel orange in my front yard. It's from a grove (I live in Arizona). The grove was replacing its' older trees (mine was 25 years old when it came to live with me; 20+ years ago). One of my neighbors drives a commercial digger for the local power company. He root-balled it, and replanted it for me. It's fine. Commercial growers need younger stock; I don't. AND I got a mature tree without the expense or the time/patience/know-how of doing it myself! It's all good!
