She wont let me out of her sight period. If I can get her to play with a toy beside me, when I go to stand up, she's haulin' butt over to me crying like I'm about to leave her forever! I'm a stay at home mom, so we're together all day. There hasn't been any changes in our daily activity, so I dont understand why she's acting like she cant leave my side. ITS DRIVING ME NUTS! She pretty much whines all day now because she wants to be sittin' on my lap. I just let her cry most of the time, but when I cant handle anymore crying I hold her. Suggestions PLEASE.

Is she your only child?

I have two boys and I have gone through this with both of them. I am also a SAHM.

This age range is an adjustment period for her. Allow her to start a new activity during the day or try playgroups.

You can also get a sling (you can even make one!) and this can allow her to have some "direct mommy time" during the day. You can do this for like an hour at a time to start and then, have "play time" while watching a movie or coloring while you have some down time.

What do you think? Maybe she is getting sick or teething? There is usually a correlation between the "clingliness" and some event. The child is usually understanding of something, like a cold, ear infection, work change or teething (etc.). Have you noticed anything different?

Totally normal. My son started that before he even started walking. I'd tell him, I'll be right back, hon. or anything to calm him down. Most of the time I would just let him come in with me. Embarrassing, I know. But when you gotta go, you gotta go. No way around it. However, he stopped doing that about 6 months ago. (He's 3 now.) I know it seems like forever, but it Will stop. He stopped when I would tell him,"If you're in here, you're going, too." every time I would go and he would come in with me, I made him sit on the his potty chair. Then if he went, I'd give him a sticker for his shirt. It only took a couple of months for him to decide he didn't want to go that often.
I wasn't too disturbed by it, unless I was in a hurry, (by the way, I only let him in if it was just a quickie! Otherwise, he could scream his little head off.) so I just waited and let it go.

You could start trying that now. I know its a little early, but it might make potty training happen earlier for you. Especially since she's a girl. My mother and mother-in-law started potty training as soon as they could walk.

I feel your pain hon.
My 11 month little boy is doing the exact same thing. To a T.
I have been told that separation anxiety is completely normal at this age and not to fret. Which is easy for my mom to say because she is 2 hours away!
If you find the magic solution, let me know!
Otherwise, just kiss that little barnacle up.

Separation anxiety...our 14.5 month old is going through that too. He SCREAMED for me when we were at my kids' grandmother's house yesterday. He didn't even want to go to their father..Our daughter had a milder case of it-but she isn't as shy as my son is.
So, yeah-just about every baby has varying degrees of separation anxiety at this phase of their lives.
