You can go to the hardware store and get a normal exterior keyed door lock -- all one would have to do is disassemble the current non-locking bedroom doorknob, remove it completely, and follow the instructions on the exterior door lock to assemble it in place.

I had to do this in my home (as a Long Term Single Parent) for MY Master Bedroom/Bath Wing, as well as my Office in my home. When my own children got to be teenagers (and their hormones, attitudes and behaviors changed and not for the better), I HAD to lock my things up ... and make sure that at least one was NOT going to steal any more from me to support his so-called 'friends' (who were using and dealing drugs). I did NOT Want my Expensive Calculators or other equipment 'disappearing' from the home ... and yes, I even went so far as to make sure NO MONEY came in the home as well (and put even the little cash in my purse in a safe as soon as I Came home -- locked in the safe in the locked access area).

Well u might actually have the right category if u wanna use the lock to keep your family from bustin in on u when u got your gf in there with u.

But just get one of those slide bolt things. U screw the thing it slides into on the frame next to the door, and u screw the part that holds the bolt onto the door. It's easy man.

Simplest is just a bolt on the inside. Screw the sliding bolt part onto the door, and the holder on the door sill, and you can lock it from the inside. Only works when you're in the room, of course

If you need to keep it locked when you're away, a simple hasp on the outside of the door is something you can install and use your own padlock

First of all you will have to fit a bolt on the top and bottom of the door that closes first, this is what the other door will lock to so the beter job you do the safer it will be, then fit the lock, a surface mount mortice lock should do, fit the lock on the inside and line up the key hole, you could just fit locking hasp and staple (the sort you would fit on a shed) but this would look a bit naff, have fun............
