What is the formula for calculating the cost on a boxed horse bet?? For example i want to bet a trifecta but i want to selct 6 horses from the field.

its a progression. For your example of a 6 horse box the formula for a $1 tri box is 6x5x4 or $120 ... there are 120 different possible winning combinations for this bet. For a 3 horse bet the formula is 3x2x1 or 6 combinations ... 4 horse is 4x3x2, or 24 different combinations....in other words, take the number of horses and multiply by the next 2 lower numbers.....for a 10 horse combo 10x9x8 or 720 possible winning combinations
