And some go on to kill people which are a superior or inferior type of animal depending on your point of view. In short, why does the Government allow these cowardly types to own guns, just because they were needed for a while when the country was wilder and being settled?

Some gun-lovers feel more powerful when they kill something or someone. They need to have power over people and that's they only way they can have it. Hunters like to kill innocent animals and they call it a 'sport.' I think they're a little unbalanced.

I will never own a gun nor will my husband as he comes from a culture where personal side arms are not allowed.

I do not have a problem with people who hunt only those animals that are suitable to be put on their table and eaten. People have always hunted for food and that is natural to human beings, with grocery stores most of us just have no need of it. After all a number of us that don't hunt still buy meat in the grocery and an animal was killed for that.

I do have a problem though when an animal becomes nothing more than a trophy to hang on a wall or be made into a rug. That is excess, only done because one has the means to do so and it is not needed.

while the country was wilder and being settled...

The idea is to protect yourself from the government. This country was founded in such a way that if the government were ever to get out of line...it is the citizens that are supposed to stage a coup and start over. It is the final check and balance of the system.

If the government is the only ones with the guns...this is not possible to overturn their power.

Furthermore, unless you are a complete vegetarian, helpless animals are killed all the time so you can eat. I know steak at the store is packaged and sufficiently distant from the slaughterhouse for you to forget that this was a cow - and probably didn't like being turned into steaks too much. But they taste great!

At least one who kills his or her own food is more aware of what goes into their meal.

The country is still wild. Case in point, three runners on the Pacific Crest Trail around Lake Tahoe were attacked by a mountain lion and one was killed but the lion got away because none of the nature lovers were armed.

When the Federal Government banned dogs in government trucks I went armed because I have neither claws nor fangs to protect me while everything else does. Even deer have been known to gore humans fatally.

Humans beings - depending upon your acceptance or rejection of science - either evolved or were designed to eat meat. Personally, I think it is MORE moral to shoot and eat a wild animal than to support the unethical meat industry.

The premise behind the 2nd ammendment is that the citizenry should be able to defend itself against a corrupt governemt. Of course we will always be out-gunned, and quite honestly, I do not have any desire to own a gun, but in places like Mexico, where gun ownership is illegal, the murder rate is astronomical because the only people with guns are those who do not abide by the law.

I am not pro-gun, though. I see no reason for a law abiding citizen to own a semi-automatic weapon.

The guns were there to defend us against human aggressors, not against animals.

I do wonder why there never seems to be someone with a gun to defend us against the raging loonies who shoot up dozens of people though.

There's no point in having a gun if you only take it out for target practice. You gotta be willing to use it.

I'm no vegetarian though, so I don't see shooting your own breakfast as "cowardly".

lot of hunters kill animals to eat, not for fun. My brother owns a hunting camp and there are a lot of rules for the hunters to obey. For instance cannot shoot a pregnant doe, or a yerling. The buck has to be a standard size. The hogs have got to be a standard size. They dont go out there shoot helpless animals and leave them there to rott. They shoot them and bring them home to eat. Deer makes great jerky and stew. YUMMY!

ye, i dont know....my dad grew up in South Africa on a farm and there are the boys and men, long ago, where expected to be able to shoot well. When he was young his father always asked him to go and shoot a buck for them or something like that and he did (he was pretty good at it) and he and his brothers would frequently just shoor birds for fun, as a pass time...... but then, when he became about 22, he became a born again chirsitian and from then on, he said, he never really felt like shooting animals just for the heck of it.

When he went back to his dad's farm, his dad still asked him to shoot a buck, once in a while, but my dad just said that he didnt really want to any more. lol, his dad didnt really get it but ye.

So i think its ok to kill animals if they are needed for food and such, but just for fun? thats cruel.

Even cave men didnt kill what they didnt need. They only killed when they needed the food and used all of it.

Trying to read what you are asking hear....are you anti hunting...if so why? That is a very deep issue. I come from a state where it is a heritage to go hunting in the fall...live the outdoor lifestyle...so there are many gun owners in this state....and we have the lowest murder rate per capita in the country.....

Are you insane!!!??? you must be one of those "do-gooders", and you're probably a woman.

Just remember this. The next time when someone brakes in your house, rapes you and kills your kid. You're gonna wish the hell you had a gun and shot him.

And as far as poor little helpless animals go, if you don't kill them, they become over populated and animals like deer will actually become a danger on the road.
Not only that, a lot of people that do kill those animal, eat them. Same thing as going to the store and buying meat (just in case you don't know) you just let someone else do the killing for you.
