You can kiss before you get married!

But this why there is a kiss at the end of a marriage ceremony. In ancient Rome, couples became engaged by kissing passionately in front of a group of people.

Also in Rome, kissing was a seal on a contract for many things, and in church there were holy kisses between members of the congregation that had nothing to do with marriage. Kissing was like a handshake is now to seal a business deal. The custom at the end of the wedding ceremony was to "seal" the marriage vows.

You should not even hold hands before you are married. LOL What a silly question. You must be awfully young or naive. The priest says now you may kiss the bride because that is a seal of thier vows. It has nothing to do with the fact that it is thier first kiss.

LOL.... Good point!
It used to be true, but nowadays the couple's illigitimate children are the flower girl and ring bearer and the best man is the bride's boyfriend and when the priest says :"you can now kiss the BRIDE", what he means is that you can stop kissing the maid of honor now and kiss the bride instead!!! ;o)

I have always thought that was a euphemism for another sexual act that now had the blessing of the church... but somewhere during the centuries the tradition changed from throwing the bride on the altar and consummating the marriage switched to a delicate peck on the cheek!

But then that is purely speculation on my part :)

the old days were that way. Marriage is a union and when you kiss the bride at that point it is suppose to mean you are one. Its the old ways and if you kissed before hand you were not as one I mean you werent just married.

Traditionally, you weren't supposed, but barely anyone listens to that. There are still come couples who never kiss until the wedding day. And I am not talking about in tribal villages or anything, but people in Modern Day America.

the kiss at the end of the wedding is just tradition. you can kiss girls or women long before that. it's part of how men decide who they want to marry. (and how women decide too)
