My mom grew up in the 40's and 50's, and to this day I still crave her old-school salmon loaf recipe. But that passed on when she did. No recipe I've tried tastes like hers.

Summer vegetable supper. Most items were fried so not very healthy, but delicious. Fired squash, fried potatoes, okra, quick kraut, butter peas home made biscuits, sliced tomatoes, slice raw onions, fresh hot green peppers and fresh salt pickles.

When we had a family get together and mom made us soul food: fried chicken, potatoes and country gravy, corn on the cob, mac and cheese, collard greens seasoned just right, buttermilk biscuits and chess pie.

I used to love these things called "hedgehogs" they are like meatballs with rice in them, then cooking in tomato soup. I loved making them with my Mum and Nan.
