Ok, I just got a Golden Retriever puppy, I love her and I also have a Caviler King Charles Spaniel. How much space do you have? Do you have another dog? I can not chose, maybe the Golden, if you mean Golden Retriever, although Cockers are great also, they are not great with other dogs. Most spaniels aren't great with other dogs, Goldens are, well, Retrievers. AlsoGolden Retrievers are great with other people, Cockers also can be, but if you really want a campanion to be your dog and your family's and your only dog, get a Cocker. If you are into agility and work, walks etc, get a Golden.... GOOD LUCK!!

Hands down a Golden :) Goldens are very loyal and friendly. They train easily because of their intelligence and the great need they have to please their owners. They love to swim and be outdoors. If you jog then they can go with you. Their grooming needs are not extensive as a Cocker's would be. Also they are very loyal and do calm down at about 1 year old.
If properly trained Goldens are the very best family dogs around.
Just do your homework and find a very good Golden breeder in your area. A good Golden will not be cheep but it will be your best friend for life!

I would definately get a Cocker Spaniel, I've had cockers all my life they are definately sweet natured dogs and great for kids, My daughter who is 6 has grown up around them also.....The only thing is that they require regular grooming about every 2 -3 months, which can get expensive . Also they are prone to ear problems. and their ears need to be cleaned about every 2 weeks if you notice a foul smell, but other than that I love my Cockers all 3 of them that I have owned.

This all depends on your lifestyle. And how much room do you have. These are both high energy dogs and need to be worked and stimulated. If they get to bored, they will become very destructive. If you have alot of time on your hands and you want devote that extra time to working a dog. Then a Golden Retriever is for you. Endless possibilities with these magnificent dogs. The love and loyalty is like no other. Good luck honey with your new companion.
