Finish your degree in Chemical Engineering, and then find a regular job somewhere that you would actually have to work on things in the real world. The best engineers I know have practical hands on experience in addition to their schooling, and many can change their own oil. After that, you have hands on and education that will put you in a better position than most.

Also, contact some defense companies and check into their intern programs if you have not finished school yet.

There is no weapons engineering. You finish your degree and then apply for jobs at defense contractors.
