This is a myth.. you dont get shorter as you get older however you do lose fluid between the disks in your spine which makes you slouch more and I believe you lose some bone mass and muscle tone. This can possibly make you slightly shorter from that but you are not going to go from 5 feet to 4 feet or anything too drastic.

Yes, you do. The spine compresses as you get older. You are also about a quarter of an inch shorter by the end of the day than you are in the morning due to the same thing. Being on your feet all day compresses the spine.

Well, generally,yes.... once you're reached the point where you stop growing. When a person gets shorter, though, it is because of loss of bone mass causing a series of small fractures along the spine. If you take super-good care of your bones, you can usually prevent this.

Yes because you loose bone density. However, there are suplements and prescritions available that can help slow the effects of bone loss. My Mom, now 73, was 5'8' . She's now 5'4".
