I have severe pain on lateral side of my lower leg (below the knee) on walking and running. i do not have any blood flow problem. this pain is more after walking. I use Reebok Premier Road Plus III while running but it still pains and i cannot walk without pain after almost 7-8 minutes of walking. can it be due to over-pronation? can some one suggest how i will know whats wrong and what should i do? i dont have this pain on cycling or swimming and am sure that its due to some walking/running style of mine which may be defective. can some professional help?

Shin splints are caused by MUSCLE IMBALANCE. If it is shin splints as most of your responders agree, then lie face down in bed with your toes hanging over the foot of the bed. Pull your toes upward against the resistance of the mattress. Do 3 or 4 sets until you can do 10 reps each.

I suggest you find a sports medicine clinic, doctor, or podiatrist to get your problem fully evaluated. Also he/she will help you with shoe selection which seems to be part of this equation.

Good Luck

You most likely have shin splints and need new shoes. It can be due to overpronation in which case you are probably in the wrong type of shoe. If there is a Fleet Feet Sports nearby, swing by and find out what shoe you need.

Yeah, sounds like shin splints. Try a different shoe. Talk to a knowledgeable shoe salesman to get the right one for your feet. That can help.

Also, try to strengthen the muscles on you shins by doing flexing exercises with your feet and ankles. Make sure you warm/stretch these muscles before you workout.
