When life is over, it's over. No afterlife what so ever.
But, I do believe that the minute you die, you will see something that can be your version of afterlife/paradise.
Which means, that if you are religious, you will probably see Jesus, Allah, God, Buddha or maybe even St. Peter and the gate. If you think you will go to hell, you will most likely see the gates of hell.
If you believe in a flower field with a rainbow and a stream, this is what you will see.
Humans are so afraid of dying so the brain help us not to go into chock, that is why we all have some kind of an image the second we die.

Pretty much I believe once we die we're dead. There's the issue of a close relative's "spirit" which hangs around in our house, but that doesn't stop me from knowing he is dead, if you see what I mean. More of an energy thing than an actual afterlife thing.
I'm open to the idea of some form of reincarnation, but I think that (for me) that's more wishful thinking and a romantic notion than anything.

Not all atheists believe the same things. Personally, I think I am the sum of all the neural pathways I have burned into my brain over the years and when I die my brain gets no more oxygen, the system breaks down, and I am gone. The end.

I'd like to believe that there was "something" there, but having checked out MOST of the "churches" around the place, I have to reject all their dogma and stuff - realising that it is just a big money-spinner for them.
Call me a "de-Facto Atheist". I don't believe in anything after death, the end is the end! But then again, I might be wrong. If I am, I cannot believe that a "loving God" would sentence me to eternal damnation, just because I didn't believe in him or her.

you ought to think of that god exists, and that he expects people to have self belief. those assumptions are what make this line of reasoning mistaken (declaring the ensuing). the subject for many atheists isn't the declare that god exists, or perhaps how god is defined, yet extremely the attitude for arriving on the tip. for many non secular claims the belief of religion is as follows. believe the claims. in case you think the declare, then the declare is now real. yet with present day epistemological standards, believing a declare is real, isn't inevitably understanding of the certainty. In present day epistemology the factors of fact for a given declare are reliant upon a manner of formal reasoning (good judgment) or upon empirical demonstration (bodily quantified info). those standards utilized to many non secular claims are at maximum suitable inconclusive and inconceivable, and at worst out appropriate exaggerations and falsehood. In my journey, there are a number of good arguments for the life of what we would quite term god, yet no longer a unmarried good argument that we ought to continually settle for a particular religions claims.

I believe in reincarnation. In this way, our "soul", which I call our "essence", returns to mortality as many times as is needed for it to attain the level of spiritual awareness that is necessary for it to become a guide for a mortal who is in the process of developing increasing levels of spiritual development. In other words we become a sort of "guardian angel", or guide. I believe that our energy is eternal. It is also my belief that the purpose for mortal experience is to learn what is not necessary.

I believe in the survival of human consciousness- I just don't believe in a personal God. I reject theology not spirituality.

I think that some people turn into ghosts but that everything must end eventually, even ghosts. Death is either nothing, or a short ghost period. There is no heaven or hell.
