In Hawaii we mix lots of things w/rice:
Soy sauce
scrambled eggs
spam
chinese pork (red color)
nori or furekaki (Japanese seaweed)
I like to heat coconut milk (add onions & lots of pepper), cook it w/mussels/crab and eat w/rice and pour some soy sauce after on rice.

Americans as a rule boil their rice, Mexicans fry it before adding the water, it tastes better too. Use chicken boullion or stock instead of plain water and after it has cooked, fluff it with a fork and just sprinkle lemon juice over it, not a lot, just a little, it will give it a real kick. Also you can use different spices like oregano one time, and cumin another time. White rice has endless possibilities, just be creative, I even add some mustard to the water and the rice turns out pretty good too. The measure is one cup of dry rice per two and a half cups of water. Wash the starch out of the rice first in a sieve under running water, let drip dry and then fry in a little oil in a non stick skillet until opaque white, then pour the water over the rice, cover and let cook around 25 minutes on medium heat, uncover and lower the flame until all the water has evaporated.
Good luck

The problem with doing this with an oven is loss of moisture. The rice will tend to dry out the longer it is in the oven. What you might do is poach the calzone, which means putting it in aluminum foil with some water. The water boils and keeps the calzone from drying out. This is a very common way to poach fish, with butter rather than water, on a grill top... I do this with salmon frequently. You basically make a bag out of aluminum foil that is loosely sealed and is elevated off the food on top and sides. Put the aluminum bag onto a cookie sheet or other baking pan to provide support over that provided by an oven shelf. Add some herbs and garlic and other seasonings to the bag to enhance overall flavor.

If you want to turn it into fried rice all you need are a few vegetables, cooked chicken (cut quite small), cooked rice, and an egg (or 2 if you like eggs, or are using a lot of rice). Throw it in a frying pan (sprayed with cooking spray). Stir constantly. It is done when the egg is done! You can add soy sauce, cumin, red pepper flakes, or any other oriental seasoning to it!

Buy a high quality jasmine rice from the oriental market. It is already kicked up a notch.

Make the rice with chicken or beef broth. I will at times use salsa over the rice (when cooked) as a fast way to spice it up. It also looks pretty on a plate.

Use chicken broth instead of plain water to cook it. Then add some cooked peas, or chopped green onion once the rice is cooked. Another good idea is to saute chopped onion in butter while the rice cooks separately. Then add the onion and 1 teaspoon of curry powder to one cup of cooked rice.

Depends on what you are serving it with. I would suggest cooking in broth beef or chicken. Add a few green onions makes for a delicious meal.

zatarains! Not sure if I spelled that right but if you are New Orleans then you know!
Or for breakfast you can fry an egg and chop it up on the rice and crumble some bacon or sausage into it.
