People don't die from AIDs, they die from the illnesses that there repressed immune systems can't fight off. A spirit like your friend has been linked to longer lives even with the most deadly illnesses. He can't get rid of his AIDs, but it is verry possible that with the new treatments he lives long enough to die of old age or something completly unrelated. Please support him, don't convince him to accept death. He should live, not wait to die.

There are people that live with AIDS for many years. Especially with all of the drug cocktails that we have now. But as far as living a normal life with full blown AIDS, I would be doubtful. You cannot will your cells to fight an infection that is slowly and systematically destroying your immune system. Because the HIV virus kills the immune system, it is extremely hard for the body to combat it's progress.
Add to this the tendency that the HIV virus has to stay inside one of the immune system cell types - machrophages- and you get a disease that is basically unbeatable. The body cannot fight the disease because it cannot find it. There is also no vaccination for it because the cells that would recognize the infection and begin to mount the immune response cannot enter the macrophages to see the HIV virus and alert other immune system cells about the infection.
Sorry to be a downer, but at this point there is no hope of survival, only of prolonging how long he has. Be that as it may, remaining positive will at the very least increase the quality of the time he has left and at best actually increase the amount of time he has left. You should do everything you can to keep him positive without making him delusional.

Todays meds are miracle drugs for HIV and AIDS. And a strong will to survive helps. So cheer your friend on for being a survivor, and support him all you can. Even if he has full-blown aids, he can live years taking good care of himself and with the meds helping.

No one dies of AIDS. People die from a variety of diseases when they have been diagnosed with AIDS. A doc won't define someone with AIDS unless their CD count is low (below 250).
With medication, good choices, it is possible to avoid or treat many illnesses that people with HIV/AIDS face.
We are a bigger risk to our friend with HIV than they are to us. A simple infection or a cold for us is nothing. For someone with a compromised immune system the results can be very serious.
We all will die. A person with AIDS can do much to improve their health, live well and prolong their lives.

It's good to see your friend trying to keep positive but unfortunately he will loose the fight at this time unless they come up with some miracle cure. Try to be supportive of him but also be realistic with yourself.

I think there's been one documented case in all history of someone having aids and then it disappearing. Unfortunately, it kills everyone.

Well depending on a persons health to start with, the "HIV meds" could eventually kill anyone, HIV positive or not.
