We with children have lost our tempers a few times.
Was he wrong, or right in getting his daughters attention?
Was there other ways for him to handle this situation?
How and why?

The tv was on in one of the treatment rooms at work yesterday, and myself and my patient were in shock that he would say that to a child that age. It would have been more accepted if he had said it to an 18 yr. old, but not to a young child like his. That was verbal abuse and he needs to appologize to the little girl and to her mother for what he said.

I think he let his temper get the best of him during that call. The girl is 11 years old and she lives with her mother so why is he so bent out of shape that she didn't answer a few of his phone calls. If my dad spoke to me like that and I'm sure this isn't the first time he has spoken to her this way then I wouldn't answer the phone either. It seems like he has a lot of anger and jealousy issues with her when it comes to the separation of love between him and his ex Kim. Who calls their kids names like that?? Pig, whats that all about anyways?? I think he was a little out of line and to threatened her with the visit to "Straighten her out" isn't cool either. He could have acted his age in this situation and try to understand that the girl is only 11. I think he was a bit too harsh and should have handled this in the complete opposite way of how he did in this message.

As a parent, I believe they are times when our children truly test our resolve and am certain every parent has moments with their child that they are not proud of. Even though we're all human, I believe that Alec crossed a line in the manner in which he spoke to his child. He belittled her in his reprimanding and clearly wanted to hurt her fragile self esteem. I think he was angry at his wife and used his daughter to hurt her.

No he wasn't wrong. His daughter was being spoiled and bratty and needed to be put in her place. She knew that he would be calling everyday and the same time and she wasn't their to accept his phone calls. He had every right to speak to her like that. The one who was wrong was Kim. She had no right leaking the voice mail message to the media. Shame on her.

Oh, that's what he did.
Maybe Dr. Phil saw that, and will talk
to Alec about it.
