I'm looking for a new fishing pole for fishing on shorelines. My price limit is 50 dollars. I need one that's at least 7 feet long with an open face reel. Can anyone tell me what brand is quality and will last long, but inexpensive?

You can't go wrong with an UglyStik. Look at the BassPro online catalog and turn the catalog to page 86-87 and you will see what I am talking about. A 7ft / 2 piece rod is going for $40........this may be a little more than you were going to spend but you can get a decent reel for about $30-$40 more and you will be set for quite a few seasons. Remember......you get what you pay for.

Ugly Stick (R) is my favorite rod i have a 12 footer i got at sports authoriy for 19 99 but no reel the reel you should get is a 50 lb shakespeers only 35 to 49.99 but buy extra parts because to much saltwater in the reel spinner can make it rot and break mine broke 3 years into me havingit but there good good luck catch a big one

I can tell you that any rod you buy online is going to cost you $15-20 shipping to lower 48 states. For that reason alone your best buy will be at a discount store like Wal-Mart. An ABU-Garcia Cardinal combo can be had for about $35 and will last forever with care. Quantum, Shimano, Daiwa make similar combos of good quality for <$50 .

Shakespeare's Uglystik is the best fishing rod for the money. It has a graphite blank that's sensitive to fish tugs and holds up well even when you hook a monster. Whatever you do, don't buy a fishing rod with a graphite composite blank. A big fish will snap it. Also Ande makes good rods for the money.

What with your budget of 50 bucks, I'd definitely go with Shakespeare's Ugly Stick. If ya' got a "Wally World" (Walmart), in your area that'd be your best bet ie., prices.

I like Quantum Xtralite rods. They are very inexpensive, but still perform well. Check this out.....http://www.jrwfishing.com/fishing_rods_reels.html
