I'd be careful with Prozac. It can cause heart palpitations.I don't think they should always be using pills to change a behaviour. It only helps the business of pharmaceuticals. She'd be better to get a friend for her dog or have someone come in and check on him. Even a radio may help for company when she is not there.

Some vets do prescribe prozac for overly aggressive dog (biting dogs) But *never* for being mischievous..It would cause more problems than ever.
Your friend's dog is suffering from separation anxiety. Here are some sites that will help her understand and deal with this problem> http://www.wagntrain.com/SeparationAnx.htm
http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/our_pets_for_life_program/dog_behavior_tip_sheets/separation_anxiety.html
this is from a site about using prozac inappropriately for a dog> ""They cite the case of Skippy, a fluffy white poodle who went on a bizarre biting spree, mauling his owner and 3 small children. The attack finally ended when Skippy intentionally ran in front of a Greyhound bus, killing himself.
"Skippy never exhibited violent behavior before Prozac," insisted family members. "Instead of helping him, the pill turned him into a doggone killer."

My vet tells me there are a lot of people asking for this! I jokingly told him I thought my mental Boxer needed some, because he really is a rather wacky old thing, and still hasn't calmed down at 10 years old. I know there are tranquilizers for animals, but would hesitate to give them to a dog simply because it is lonely. Maybe a few toys would help the dog not be so bored when there is no one there.

u r joking right???? u wouldn't really do that?? i hope not? giving a dog human medicine would not wrk!!!!!!! it would kill the poor thing! if thats what u want? hope not, really?? just tell "YOUR FREIND" to get s good dog trainer, since he cant train the dog himself!! training will help ur problem...do not try prozac!!! or even u can tell "ur friend" not to leave the dog alone for that long or maybe just keep the dog in one room/area till u he gets home! like the kitchen or bathroom...not tooo small of an area though!! also it depends on the size of the dog too!! BUT please dont give a dog prozac or ne form of human medicine!!!

She should not give her dog prozac! A vet could prescribe something appropriate and safe for a dog.

Please do not do this. Prozac is a human medication for depression, and you have a dog with separation anxiety. Please see a vet or behaviourist for tips on how to deal with this - NEVER give an animal human medication, especially prescription stuff!
Well, I can only pray you were kidding.

Only if you want to kill it! Take it to a Vet & to an obedience school.
Maybe you could get some 'training' yourself on how to 'safely' care for a pet.
