I think the bible was written in a time when women weren't accepted by the stonger, more dominant men of the era. I also think that the bible is 2000 years old, and therefore not a very great source of guidelines for the modern, nuclear-warfare-age people.

Yes, the Bible does not support complete equality. Men and women are not the same and will never be. However, this doesnt mean the woman should be a slave. It just means that man wins the tiebreaker in making decisions.
Women have gotten special privileges in the Bible, as Jesus addresses them using "Woman,..." which is respectful, and they were the first to see Him after the Resurrection.

There are also verses in the Bible that tell men to be good and kind to their wives. Some of thoses verses are in Corinthians I believe.
There is another verse in the New Testament that says that, now that Jesus has come, all believers are essentially the same -- there is no master and slave. There is no male and female. All are redeemed in the eyes of God.
Also, think about this: Jesus was the son of God. When he came to earth, one of the acts of love he did was to wash his disciples' feet. He told them to love and serve one another. He said that the meek shall inherit the earth. Jesus taught that his followers serve others. The bible also says that someday the first shall be last, and the last first. There is no shame in serving and being a helper to others. There is honor and goodness. Jesus led the way by giving up his live in service to us!

Of course men and women are equal nowadays.Don`t forget that the bible is only a collection of stories collected a couple of thousand years ago when men literally ruled in the home (and elsewhere).

You forgot this Verse:
The Apostle Paul wrote:
"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;" (Ephesians 5:25)

What about Ephesians 5:25:
"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it."
Which basically means that husbands are supposed to be willing to die for their wives. Please read the whole book before critiquing it. :)
