find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
dont try to lose more than 1-2lbs a week - its not healthy to lose more.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried - no junk food.

Hey
I'm nineteen, and I was really overweight when I was about your age... we're talking heavier than you. I've lost most of it, and this is how:
1. Exercise. I know it's scary when you're conscious about your weight and probs haven't exercised for a while. I hate running and the gym and stuff so I started (and still do!) with swimming only ladies-only night at our local pool (you'll probably find a lot of the ladies are there to lose weight too), and with an exercise video at home. There's some really fun ones out there - try amazon marketplace for some cheap ones.
2. Drink lots of water. It might sound daft but a lot of the time when you think you're hungry you're actually just thirsty. So drinking water helps your body stay full and not confuse thirst for hunger.
3. Change your eating a bit. I drank, and indeed still do drink, fruit smoothies. Your local supermarket will probably sell frozen fruit or even smoothie mix. Just blend this, or fresh or canned fruit in juice, with milk or fruit juice and drink. This way you get loads of fruit without actually eating big chunks of it...
Also, try to increase the amount of fruit and veg that you eat. I like big sandwiches with ham or cheese or whatever, but then with loads of salad stuffed in there too. Fill your plate with the veg, and it will make you feel like you're not dieting - you've got a plate full!
Try to cut out the rubbish in your diet - I love candy like haribo and stuff but have slowly cut it out - find a fruit you really like, and eat bite-sized bits of that, or snack on cereal or again smoothies if you feel hungry.
4. Weigh! I weigh myself once a week, on a Thursday morning. I'll make a note of this in my journal. In my journal I also try to write down all that eat, so I can see if I'm going wong or conratulate myself on going right!! After weighting myself I'll have whatever I like for lunch - chinese, a cream cake, a mars bar... and it's a real treat once a week! Then after that treat, it's back to the sensible eating. It's a good motivator to lose each week.
5. Don't skip meals. It doesn't help you lose weight. But you already know that...
This is just some of the stuff I've learnt myself through my weight-loss journey. Most of it's common sense, but I'm sure you'll do just fine if you follow these things if you feel youcan. Feel free to email me, amyallen123@hotmail.co.uk.
Hope that helps!

Just eat less and exercise more! You might wanna try a specific diet, like weight watcher's or south beach or the zone, but it's up to you.
Good luck! I'm trying to lose weight too!

a couple tips -
Someone once told me: "Eat breakfast like a king, eat lunch like a prince, eat dinner like a pauper."
When you sleep, you burn very few calories, so you should eat less and less as the day goes on.
Not really into running, I started getting into shape when I began walking for fitness. It goes to show you - the most effective exercise program is the one you'll actually take part in.
Bottom line is - you know what you need to do: eat well, exercise, sleep sufficiently, do something active every single day, stay away from the TV, etc., etc., etc.
good luck

oh wow, i'm in the exact same situation.
well, i'd say cut out sugar, and high carb/calories foods. excersize, easily is okay [like jumping jacks, walking] anything helps honestly. eat as many fruits and veggies as possible. & drink tons of water, no sodas.
you'll loose a pound or two a week, and itll stay off.
