I have been looking for a certain cat for a while that cost around $1000-$2000, and today I found one for $500, but the breeder said it had a few ulcers on her eye. Should I not buy her for that reason, I don't thing I will find another good deal like this!

the reason it is at a reduced price is because it is sick. It is common for cats in shelters and breeders to be infected with feline herpes virus which commonly manifests with corneal ulcers. This will be a lifelong thing that will come and go. Don't spend $500 on a sick cat. What breed are you looking for. Most breeds have clubs associated with them that can link you to a rescue organization-where you may be able to get a purebred inexpensivley.

I think it's outrageous that a breeder would even be attempting to sell an animal in this condition at all. 500 dollars is NOT a good deal - eye ulcers in a cat can be serious and result in the loss of the eye if not treated correctly and promptly - you could end up paying $500 again to save the cat's sight! I'm not saying the treatment WILL be expensive - but the breeder obviously thinks so if the cat's selling for such a reduced price!

If I was in your position I'd report the breeder for trying to offload an animal with a health condition. At a minimum, I'd give the breeder a lecture she wouldn't forget 'til her dying day! I can only pray the cat finds a home with someone willing to pay out for the ulcers - if that's you then go for it for the cat's sake, but it won't be cheap.

you may still want to check with you vet on this but it is my belief that most of the time somthing tlike that is fixed without problem. Corneal ulcers on cat heal rather well with antibiotic eye drops. It take a bit of time out of your day casue the cat will need the drops about 3 times a day, and should clear up well within a week. I am suprised that the breeder does not just fix this and sale that cat fro a bit more, and that is what makes me worry a bit. if you do get the cat, i would make an agreement with the breeder that you will have the cat checked by a vet and anything besides the corneal ulcers comes up that you would get a full refund or that the breeder would pay for the other treatment needed....hope that helps you, best i got.

I would not under any circumstances buy a cat that had any health issues. "Few" ulcers on the eye can be a real problem. The owner should have had this treated already. It's not a good deal if you're going to have to spend a lot of money on vet bills. $500 is not a bargain under any circumstances.

I can understand wanting a certain kind of cat, and I also understand that cat prices can be like real estate -- whatever the market will bear, but please investigate other alternatives. This breeder cannot be the only one selling this kind of cat. What the breeder is trying to do is unload a medical problem on you. You're setting yourself up for heartache if you buy this cat. .

It sounds like corneal ulcers. Here is a link on the subject that might give you some insight on what you are looking at. http://www.vetinfo4cats.com/cateye.html#Corneal%20Ulcers This website has lots of good info on it and alot on eye problems. From there you can surf for more info. Plus call a vet and pick his brain.

Learn what you can about cat eye problems, and what is financially involved vet wise, then make a decision. If you still want the cat with what you learn, and the cat is your heart's desire, then go for it.

You don't want to get a cat with ulcers on it's eyes!!!!!!!!!!!

That sounds like Chlamydia or Herpes, and yes, I am serious! Cats can get those viruses, and they affect the eyes!

You aren't getting a good deal if there is a cat with ulcers in the eyes or in the mouth. There is a virus they also get with Calicivirus ~ this virus leads to the Chlamydia and/or Herpes.

Ask your vet, you may be able to treat the ulcers and keep him (depending on how badly the poor things corneas are scarred!!) It's cruel to let her go blind, rather take her - with a few medical bills & save her!!
