I'm trying to lose some weight, which is proving difficult as I am not a breakfast eater. In the morning I'm just not hungry. This week I've been drinking 1 can of low-sodium V8 in the mornings, hoping this is enough to kickstart my metabolism. I would think that it would be thick enough to register as something which must be digested, like a milkshake or smoothie would. Anyone know if this works?

I think you have some misconceptions about how the human digestive system works. Your diet should be fine. Have small snacks throughout the day to keep yourself from binging.

Funny, I've been doing the exact same thing ... except I get the full sodium version. You don't need to watch your salt unless you're having certain medical problems or taking certain medicines. Anyway, I think either version is the perfect thing to have in the morning ... just enough carbs in it to get you started for the day and light enough that it doesn't slow you down. I think that will definitely help your diet.

Dr Albert's answer (right above mine) makes me wonder if he is actually a doctor. Anyone who really knows anything about metabolism and blood sugars knows that your metabolism shouldn't be "all geared up" during your first meal of the day. Breakfast means break FAST ... you're breaking a fast, so you need to start your carbs back up slowly so it isn't a shock to your system. The 14 grams of carbohydrate in a can of V8 is the perfect amount to get your metabolism going without making it suddenly work overtime. I know this because I had gestational diabetes (GD) when I was pregnant. I also learned that that type of a diet isn't just good for diabetics, it's good for anyone trying to lose weight because it regulates your blood sugar which keeps you from being hungry all the time.

only V8 for breakfast. it's better than nothing but not by much, 8oz is only 50 calories. there isn't enough calories in that to have any real effect on the metabolism, it's mostly vitamins and minerals. 10 grams of carbs and no protein or fats isn't helping the metabolism much

try eating a light snack 30 minutes before you go to bed of an easily digestible protein like cottage cheese or sugar free yogurt. this may help to increase the appetite when you awake. you really need a decent serving of carbohydrates and a high quality protein source in breakfast for optimum results

poooja if you lose weight with out excerising then you become loose, you need to exorcise and after you have lost all the weight,. exercise with a 3 or 4 pds weight to get muscle hard and sturdy.

V8 has alot of vitamin, but you could get tired of it, maybe a whole wheat cereal for breakfast small bowl.

you should atleast add something even if it is a granola bar or cereal bar. Also there is nothing wrong with low sodium all foods that we eat already have sodium in them without adding salt so low sodium products actually may benefit your health

You need to eat some food to start burning calories. V8 is good but also has calories, so don't drink too much. It's actually better to eat those vegetables than drink them.

REMEMBER THAT OLD SAYING, "BREAKFAST LIKE A KING, LUNCH LIKE A PRINCE AND DINNER LIKE A PAUPER."
THIS MEANS THE BREAKFAST SHOULD BE YOUR BIGGEST MEAL TO GET YOUR METABOLISM ALL GEARED UP FOR THE DAY, AND DINNER SHOULD BE THE SMALLEST AS YOUR METABOLISM REALLY SLOWS DOWN FOR THE DAY. TRY IT IT REALLY WORKS.

you need some complex carbs for breakfast, they give energy, and i dont think V8 have many (if any).
