Today I just give 350.00 for state police. then tomorrow local police call for 250.00. Then fire dept calls, FBI calls for support. I am running a small business. Sometimes, I don't give them the support because I don't feel it right. They get mad and slamp the phone. I am not sure if they are doing the right thing. Because we are all paying taxes.

I own a business as well and get lots of calls from many agencies claiming to be raising money for the Police, Fireman, and occasionally the families of slain Officers (which is a sickening scam.) A friend of mine is the president of the Policeman's Benevolent Association for the local Police Dept. He told me never to donate when these people call, even when they are legitimate. The Police agencies hire telemarketing companies to solicit donations and keep a large percentage of the donated money as their compensation. The company used by the State Police here keeps 40% of the money they raise.
I do think people should donate to Police organizations. The money goes towards the Christmas "Shop with a Cop" program that buys clothes and toys for needy kids and other charitable projects. Donate, just do it directly instead of through a telemarketer.

It is not the actual officers asking for the money. That job is farmed out to a telemarketing firm, etc. The money is not typically for the police department itself. It is more than likely for the union. The union will use these funds for donations at a later date. Such donations may be car seats, special olympics, and gun buybacks. If the caller is rude verify who they are and who, in fact the call is coming from. Is from an actual officer or a marketer. Let the union rep or president know what is taking place.

I saw a TV special about this. These people who are calling you, may not even be affiliated with the police, fire. They were saying that people in jail call and get donations out of people, which goes into their bank accounts. So be really careful, who you give your donations to, especially over the phone.

That is a scam a police or fire department will NEVER call you for support. If you do feel like making donations make them in person at the department itself.

The Chief of Police Assoc. won't stop calling me. Also, I am constantly getting letters from my local fire and emergency services asking for money.

Once you give, you're on a list. It's not the department itself calling, it's a separate phone marketer. Just tell them no thank you and hang up.

Scams. OR, worse, extortion/protection rackets. Don't send anymore money to anyone until you discuss this with your attorney, or banker, OK? Donate money only to those organizations who DO NOT call and solicit.

Just tell them that you only donate to orgs who send you WRITTEN stuff, and you never donate over the phone. Then you can verify the claims of fundraising.

I have donated before to Police Activity League (PAL). I know that is legit. Everybody else? I dunno.

I do not know who is calling you but it is not any law agencies. But I think you know that too. Is there a point to this lie?
