God used to be a man on another planet, Mormon Doctrine, p. 321. Joseph Smith, Times and Seasons, Vol 5, pp. 613-614; Orson Pratt, Journal of Discourses, Vol 2, p. 345, Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, vol. 7, p. 333.)
The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man's; the Son also; (Doctrine & Covenants: Section 130:22)
The book of Mormon is more correct than the Bible, (History of the Church, 4:461.)
Jesus and Satan are spirit brothers and we were all born as siblings in heaven to them both, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 163.)
After you become a good Mormon, you have the potential of becoming a god, (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pages 345-347, 354.)
"Then shall they be gods, because they have no end; therefore shall they be from everlasting to everlasting, because they continue; then shall they be above all, because all things are subject unto them. Then shall they be gods, because they have all power, and the angels are subject unto them," (DC 132:20).
There are many gods, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 163.)
There is a mother god, (Articles of Faith, by James Talmage, p. 443.)
God is married to his goddess wife and has spirit children, (Mormon Doctrine p. 516.)
If it had not been for Joseph Smith and the restoration, there would be no salvation. There is no salvation [the context is the full gospel including exaltation to Godhood] outside the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 670.)
"God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens!!! . . . We have imagined that God was God from all eternity. I will refute that idea and take away the veil, so that you may see" (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 345

The BoM states nothing about cosmology, but the BoA refers to some astronomical musings, mostly about Kolob and governing stars and so forth. Since God resides somewhere near the star named Kolob, it is supposed that there are similar places (stars) for other gods.
In the eye-opening book "People In Space" John Heinerman, Ph. D., a BYU professor emeritus, examines these clues and posits some conclusions based on the BoA, Journal of Discourses, and other less known documents. There are people on other planets and the sun, but you just can't see them. They're farther along their eternal progression, as are the planets/stars themselves.
Dr Lyle M Hilton wrote the treatise "The Kolob Theorem" http://www.hiltonbooks.com/The_Kolob_Theorem.pdf which examines the stars and galaxies as homes of 'other gods'. This is a little more 'meatier', and has prettier pictures, but also states that the other galaxies are the dwelling places of other gods.
While none of the above is considered remotely doctrinal, the two authors are professors with doctorates at BYU. They are both extracted from mormon folklore, early apostles' speeches, letters, etc, and a smattering of science. Smattering may be too flattering. Both are more missionary tracts than anything scientific, but that's how the morg works.
Curiously 'People In Space' concludes that God lives in the center of the galaxy's black hole since it's all 'fiery' and no mortal could exist there, and Outer Darkness is way out in the distant spiral arms.
Hilton, by contrast states that outer darkness is in the back hole, since it's a dimensional-altering state that eliminates all connections to god.
Both, like the texts they are based on, are a pile of horseh!t
I say this in the name of Carl Sagen, who's dead.

there is likewise John 5:19 Then spoke back Jesus and reported unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do no longer something of himself, yet what he seeth the father do: for what issues soever he doeth, those additionally doeth the Son likewise. 20 For the father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all issues that himself doeth: and he will shew him extra beneficial works than those, that ye might marvel. So what did the Son do? He replaced into born, grew up, taught the Gospel, died and replaced into resurrected. If the Son might desire to purely do what he had considered the father do, what did the father do? it extremely is all a count of interpretation and is something which none individuals will understand what's astonishing till we stand in the previous the Judgment Seat. no count if it extremely is the contributors of the Church or those against the Church, we can't understand which of them would be asserting 'oops' on that day.

In the New Testament, Paul tells the Romans and the Galatians that we are sons of God, heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ.
Here is what it says in the Book of Mormon.
3 Nephi 28: 10 And for this cause ye shall have fulness of joy; and ye shall sit down in the kingdom of my Father; yea, your joy shall be full, even as the Father hath given me fulness of joy; and ye shall be even as I am, and I am even as the Father; and the Father and I are one;
Now, if you want to infer that this means we become a god and get our own planet, so be it. Personally, I don't worry about it. Frankly, I don't know that I would want a planet all to myself (or rather, share with my husband). Did you see the movie "Bruce Almighty"? He was given the position of God, and at first, he was only feeling how all that power would work to his own advantage, but then, he began to realize that, with such power, comes great responsibilities. Shoot, I don't want to be president of the Relief Society! How could I "rule a planet"??

While it's not in the Book of Mormon, it mainly comes from various talks and church magazine articles by various general authorities of the Church (the one I've most often heard quoted is a statement by Lorenzo Snow, the 5th president of the Church, who stated "As man is, God once was, and as God is, man may become.")
As for scriptures, we often point to Romans 8:16-17: "The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified together. "
Now, if we're to go on those verses (and assume that Christ gets all that the Father (God) has) and we're joint-heirs with Christ, then would we also not get all that God has, up to and including godhood status ourselves?

Are you Christian? Yes? Then a better question is why don't you believe this?
Here are some biblical scriptures to help you understand.
Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
Romans 8:16 -17
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
Psalms 82:6
I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
Is this sufficiently clear for you?

They get their Scripture from travelling circuses. Thats how they got the "Book of Abraham" . With that said, anything is possible. Want a planet? Done. All it costs is 10% and your Daughter.

The Jehovahs Witnesses believe that, not the Mormans. My Grandma was a Jehovahs Witness. They're 24 beers short of a case.

The LDS believe that the ELDER'S teachings are sacred too, don't know if that relates to this or not, other than being just as strange.
