We swam in shame over Vietnam and now we will swim in shame and eat crow once again over the illegal war in Iraq. Will the all knowing and all powerful USA government ever learn a permanent lesson to "mind its own business"?

A big problem with your question is the word 'war'.

There was no declaration of war. Iraq was not the aggressor. America invaded Iraq. The same way Hitler invaded Poland.

Actually it is worse. Germany is next door to Poland and both are Europeans.
Iraq is oceans apart from America, in more ways than one.
Hitler was open about his agenda.
America lied about its agenda.

To free Kuwait.
Kuwait was part of Iraq until it was sliced up by the British. Saddam Hussein did not invade Iraq. During an OPEC meeting, Kuwait, which was violating production output agreement, was warned by Saddam Hussein that if it did not return to the agreed output production he would seize their oil and shut them off completely. (This aired on PBS.) For economic reasons, Iraq, which had just completed an American-sponsored war against Iran needed the price of oil to remain at a certain level. Saddam Hussein did not go into Kuwait to unify it with Iraq, nor to destroy Kuwait, nor to kill Kuwaitis, nor to steal historical artifacts or to destroy their oil fields. He went into Kuwait to shut off their production of oil. There was no destruction of any kind, including to the oil processing equipment.
When Americans invaded Iraq, their oil facilities were burned, their historical artifacts were stolen and sold to auction houses in New York. Under Bush2, their museum was looted and anything American could not carry or was too well documented as belonging in the Iraqi museum was deliberately destroyed. (Americans had accused Saddam Hussein of destroying artifact but each and every single one was returned safely to Kuwait. How could a backward boy form a backward country ensure that each and every single historical object was not destroyed when he entered Kuwait, but a "great country with such magnificent resources" could not protect a single museum and its contents ended up in an auction house in New York?)

Weapons of Mass Destruction
The truth is Bush 'mis-spoke'. The weapons of mass destruction came into Iraq with the Americans.
Iraq was destroyed and their people were systematically killed by the invaders and their weapons of mass destruction.

To remove the dictator.
Bush is still in office and he is becoming more aggressive every day.
His supporters are becoming more confident they can dictate to the world.
John McCain’s "bomb, bomb, bomb" Iran was another indication of the true American agenda.
The destruction of all non-European countries. Starting with Middle East and then heading over to Asia.

More people have died in Iraq since the American invasion than in Poland. (Remember to count those that died in Iraq under George Bush Senior's aggression, Bill Clinton's daily bombing and 'no fly zone' and George Bush Junior's second invasion of Iraq. Also remember to include all the infants, children and elderly that died because of the sanctions.)

A country and a people without a conscious cannot experience shame.

we should its not our problem to help the people being killed all over the world we can build our walls on our borders blockade the oceans cut off all outside travel this way no one gets in

quit complaining fact is we are in Iraq ... whether they where at the beginning or not terrorist groups have made Iraq home if we pull out we will not go back
you want to learn from history Russia fighting in Afghanistan they pull out and terrorists make it home and live in peace for decades to plan on what they want to do we pull out of Iraq it would fall apart people who stood for democracy will be tortured and killed just like anyone who thought that under Saddam and it will be ran by those people blowing the hell outta each other although we could just let Iran get involved (more than they are already) so the people preaching death to America and Israel can have a even bigger area to recruit from

this war has no effect on you ... stocks are at a all time high home ownership is at an all time high there is a job if you want one as far as debt we all know there are many other areas that could be cut such as welfare and grants for who the hell even knows

we have the most powerful army in the world we might as well take out threats before they become one

less than 1% of the US population is a "direct relation" to someone serving in the armed forces so why is everyone so concerned i doubt you could give the full name of 10 people who have served in Iraq

so really why hold your head in shame? because thats what CNN told you to do?

my question why as a statement ? so you can choose the best awnser that agrees with you? are you so insecure you need to find at least one person who agrees with you? there is someone who will agree with anything just as Charles Manson I suggest you visit Iraq before you mention how terrible it is. you are talking of an area that didnt have running water people where urinating and drinking in the same water no electricity very few schools living in fear

they now have schools acrossed the country cell phones running water electricity for 4 hours a day (you must start somewhere) and have been getting an economy rebuilt on things other than just oil which we all know is required to become a real new world country.

how many people died in the American revolution?
how many died to stop slavery?
how many died to stop Hitler?
how many have died in peace keeping around the world?
If this stops just one future attack and the death of an innocent US citizen possibly your or my family members was Saddam a threat at the time no, but he also refused to let UN inspectors into large areas of his country
it was not an illegal war it was act of defiance after defiance of UN measures and the UN not stepping up

next question what with Iran we know they are enriching uranium they limit UN inspectors have a underground facility in a bomb shelter how many peaceful activities are prepared to withstand a war?

but yes i agree lock down the country pull outta everywhere and shoot anyone crossing the borders then all we have to worry about is our own psychopaths going on shooting rampages

Answer to both your questions is NO! Why would I be ashamed to live in the best country on the face of this earth? No one such as you could EVER make me ashamed. I find those that are ASHAMED usually live in a hole and not a FOXHOLE. Those kind usually have a yellow streak down their back and are referred to as PACIFIST.

By the way, I did not swim in shame over Viet Nam! I served 2 tours...was only when getting home did I meet those that I was AHAMED to call AMERICANS!

We won every Major battle in Viet Nam There was no shame. The only shame was when the south Vietnamese army ran from the invading North. What is shameful is people like you who do not know a damn thing about what went on over there. Ho Chi Min knew that the stupid public would make us leave if he prolonged the war. He said so himself. He did not care about how many Vietnamese people he killed. He knew that people like you would be stupid enough to make it over before it was time. We actually had a large request from the educated from Iraq asking us to help free their country. When you people learn to know and remember things that happen before things get crazy?

I can tell there is a good chance that your not from the US, so therefore, it is none of your business. The US is not in shame over this war or any war in the past. when your country needs help, I bet the US will be the first one your President will be begging for help.

Once you dawned that uniform you knew you were giving your life in service to the flag and everything it stands for..god! its people like you who should of died in vietnam and the real heros come home..making judgments on behalf or your superiors is not your place..your opinion should remain as it is, your opinion! and not be blurted out in such a way as to influence others from what you concieve as right!..you signed the dotted line you made a choice to join.. what you didn't want to do.. is the same for all the soldiers who stand out there now giving their all..YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED! You betray the very ones who are in the uniform and wear it proud altho jacked up as it is now the military still hold values that YOU don't even live up let alone deserve to say you had..go stik your head in the sand out of shame and don't even say your a VET cause I am ASHAMED to call you one..

Lets clerify.
American People will have nothing but pride and respect for every man and woman that went to fight in what was eventually false circumstances.

Its not the american people but the bush administration and all its republican who keep supporting such an idiotic stance on this "war on terror"

70% of Americans want this idiot to change his course, but its this present government who for 6 years just did whatever they want because it was republican led, and now for 2 moreyears will try to keep it that way even if they have to sabatoge any and all efforts to reinstate global trust in america once again.

First of all, it's not an illegal war. Secondly, if we swim in shame it will only be because of a pull out just like Vietnam.
