all children prefer their parent's love and time, but often the material goods are a poor substitute for the love they crave. parents these days have little time for their children, putting them in child care from very young so that they can provide their children with these material goods to prove to them that they love them.
if only they could see that being there and being available is worth 3 fold what material items are.
this generation is failing in this area, terribly!

I think there are many kids this generation do want material things. I think it's because the technology and so many cool gadgets, that it's a must have. But, there are some children who don't mind their parents love and time. It's because it's the way they're raised. If a parent takes the time to educate their children about the values of love and time with the family then the children will be raised that way.

I am sure kids want both, but I am also sure that material things are more important to kids. It also depends what age kids you are referring to.?. In general, i believe as children get older, the need for material possesion increases.
Why? who knows. Maybe because society is pushing it on us. Everwhere you turn, every shopping centre, every magazine, every bus, everything is telling us to buy something. Was it like that 100 years ago? 50 Years ago? Wasn't life so much simpler. Gone are the days of playing outside, and making up things to do..... (my father recalls "ditch-jumping" with his little friends in England 50 years ago, where they would be devastated to get a "booty" [a boot full of water!!] ) Now, kids play inside on computers, gameboys, ipods, tv. ANd, its the parents buying them!
I guess what im saying is I wish they wanted parents love and attention. In general, i just dont believe they do.

I remember seeing a tshirt when I was younger. It read:
"He who dies with the most toys wins"
As always, kids will act how their parents act. It does no good to complain about our kids' latest PS3 obsession if their folks can't keep from ordering up satellite TV and spending their weekends on amazon.com.
Given the choice, young children would rather go bike riding with their parents than go to the mall with them. But why do they end up at the mall? It's what the parents want to do. At the end of the day, if our kids are materialistic, it's our own fault.

I think more kids are wanting material things, because they can, but when push comes to shove, the love of their parents would come first.

i think many kids who already have their parents love and time might take it for granted and complain about not getting enough material things, but the children who aren't getting the love and attention they need realize what they are missing and no material things can make them happy.

My kids are still young enough (5, 2 and a half, and 1) that they would pick my time over material things anyday. Well, my 2 year old might pick chocolate over me.

I think they they only think they want material things. But what they really want and need is parents' love, time, and discipline.

Nothing that can be given to a child is as important as the love and attention of a parent.
