An anal fissure is a good reason for why your little one has blood in his stools. If he has any of these symptoms you should take him to the ER: Fainting or to weak to stand. You should call you doctor if he has any of these: Looks or acts sick, large amount of blood in stool, or blood alone and no stool, if it looks like it is "tarry" or black, that may be a sign that something is wrong in his tummy. If he has diarrhea, pink or tea colored urine, and tummy pain, and if he has any bruises that can't be explained. You could let him soak in a warm saline bath for about 20 min. I think you should still keep your appointment, but if he is not showing any of these signs, I think you will be alright till tomorrow. Just so you know what a fissure is, it is a small tear or cut around the anus. If your son had a hard movement, this could cause it. I hope he starts to feel better. Good luck

This can NOT be a real question.
Get off here and take your son to the ER. Losing blood in fecal matter or urine is one of the last signs (closely followed by dizziness, fainting, and possibly death if you don't get him treatment).
It can mean that he's constipated, sure. Ask him if it hurt when he pooped. But it could be caused by internal bleeding of some kind (not always related to blunt force trauma, by the way). If it is from internal bleeding, and he's had it a few times consecutively in the past two days, that means that he could have been slowly losing blood for up to four days (two days of bloody poo, a little extra time for the blood and stool to pass through his system).
Take him to the ER. Hopefully, it's from constipation, or you're just not right about it actually being blood (store-bought chocolate cupcakes with red or green icing will cause poop to look like bloody stool).
Whatever it is, though, change your pediatrician. No competant doctor would tell you to wait it out. There's not that much of a likelihood that it is blood, or it is from internal bleeding, but the ramifications if it WERE are so major, you need to start out assuming it could be and rule out major possibilities first. For the doctor to not suggest a child with bloody stool be examined immediately, and instead decide over the phone that it can wait another day or so, is AWFUL!

Blood in the stool can be very scary. It could just be a small fissure on his anus if he was constipated or it could indicate something more serious. My friends son had this problem and she kept taking him to the doctor. Finally she took him to a pediatric gastroenterologist who diagnosed him with Crohn's disease. This can be life threatening if left untreated. Has your son lost weight? How is his color? Is he pale? Is he eating and drinking normally?
If everything is okay other than the blood then wait to see your doctor - if you notice him acting different or any of the other questions I asked above - bring him to ER and demand to see a gastroenterologist. They should do a complete blood count on him and a stool study.
Best of luck to you...

MY daughter had red number 2's a couple of times as well. I took her to the ER... I told the doctor that I wanted a nun's cap (to catch poop in the toilet) to take home... a requisition for lab work and the sterile container with her name and number to match the req. I got it (with an attitude from the doctor who doesn't like being told what is expected from them)... got my daughter's fecus sample. All was fine. And I was happy. If they eat cranberries or something.. it will come out red. But if you do go to ER, tell them what you want.. that you want a stool sample done and you need the stuff to take home and will drop the stool off at the lab after his next bowl movement.

if his pooh is a little hard it could have caused a fissure. That's just a small tear in his anus. It's no big deal and really easy to fix but they can be quite painful so he does need to see a doc. If it's a lot of blood though, I wouldn't wait till monday. I would take him sooner.

sounds like he is just constipated. Give him more water to drink, add more fiber to his diet, and limit his cheese intake. Cheese is horrible for constipation.

As long as he's normal and just fine and doesn't have a fever, you can wait until tomorrow. But please do be sure and take him to the doctor tomorrow.
