i'm taking my cat to the vet tomorrow, but would like an idea if possible of what it might be.
Two nights ago, first noticed "droopy" eyes. Kind of blinking alot, but no discharge. Two days ago, she stopped eating and drinking. Now, she only sleeps and eats little bits of food out of my hand (tuna). She walks really stiffly and fell over when she tried to jump on the chair. Has a fever, but no sneezing or runny nose. Very small intermitent eye discharge. I'm so sad and I can't pay the vet much. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?
thank you....please email me if u need more info.

Your vet may check for kidney or liver issues, if yoru kitty is sick suddenly and lethargic. Hypothyroidism could also make her legs week, or low potassium. The thyroid often affects hte eyes also. Best thing is to get her a blood test and a check up. Care Credit is a way to pay for treatments over a long period of time. There are also vets like even PetSmart's clinics that allow you to pay over time, I would check first with them. I hope your kitty feels better real soon. If it is the kidney or liver, they can recover, though most vets try to talk you out of treatment. Please email me for some tips on inexpensive and successful care.

Have you seen all of the information on the tainted foods? If you have been feeding your cat some of the foods that have been recalled, she may be having kidney failure. Make a list of what you have been feeding - both wet and dry, if you feed both - most vet's are keeping up with all of the recalled foods, and it will help them make a quicker determination of what might be wrong with her.
Dehydration is a serious danger - it can kill them very fast. Try to get her to drink. If you don't have pedialite, even getting her to drink small sips of water, frequently, until you can get her to the vet, it might save her life. I have several cats, and I keep the "big" syringes that come with liquid antibiotics, and I have even used a syringe to squirt just a few drops of water at a time, into a sick cat's mouth, to keep it hydrated until I could get it in to the vet. NOT a lot -- just a few drops at a time. You could even do this with a small spoon or eyedropper.

Get her to the vet NOW. It could be distemper, or since there has been a recent pet food recall it could be kidney failure, or it could be feline leukemia or any number of problems. Hours can make the difference between life and death if it is kidney failure - not to mention the fact that she is hurting right now and needs help.

www.carecredit.com This site will provide a no-interest loan. Your vet gets paid, your cat gets help, and you can pay it off a bit at a time.

Take her in NOW. If your regular vet can't see her, go to an emergency vet.

I'm sorry to say that there are a lot of things this could be.

FELV, Poisoning, drinking radiator fluid (which is highly toxic, but sweet so animals will drink it) and other illnesses.

Try to get her to drink some pedialite if you can. Dehydration can be deadly.

Hopefully the vet will be able to help you affordably. Meanwhile, since you are going to the vet tonight, look for low cost/low income vets online tonight. That way if your vet can't work with you on fees you are prepared with other options.

How old is your cat? Could she have gotten into something that was not good for her? Is she an indoor or outdoor cat. Is she going to the bathroom? Get her to the vet tell him what you have notice. Make her comfortable tonight and tell her you love her. If she goes out she might have gotten into something that is poisonous. She could have had a stroke. I wish you luck.
