Has anybody bought or rented a vehicle to travel around oz in?
I'm traveling for 3 months and I wanted to know how much it would cost to rent or buy a vehicle. Any good answers would help.

If u r over 25 it's easier to rent a car.
You are looking at 52 ++ a day for the cheapest car (plus tax and stuffs) Petrol going at 1.20 +-
Uh. u can try Access a Car or Hertz.
Buying a car it's a little harder but if 3 months it is a little cost effective, especially if u r in Vic where cars are relatively cheaper (i think)

I've had a combi that I drove around Oz in. It was my best friend and my worst nightmare. If it breaks down somewhere remote you are screwed. I spent a week at Julia Creek in western Queensland waiting for a part. Not fun. I've also driven a Datsun 180 B from Rainbow each in Qld to Perth. Never lifted the bonnet on it. Followed the service road for the train across the Nullabour. Never had so much fun. Now I would probably look at an XB panel van. Parts every where. Anyone can fix it. Might be hard to find one. Watever you do get the RAC top cover. It is gold. If you break down and it looks bad knock on the mechanics door about 3pm on a Friday. There is no way they are going to look at it until the Monday by which time all the benefits kick in. I had my combi put on a truck and sent from Melbourne to Brissie and got a bus ticket that let me stop where I wanted o the way up. Saved on the fuel and waited in Byron until it was fixed in Brissie. Gold.

I would suggest buying a cheap car, then sell it, cause renting a car for 3 months will cost a fortune. However you can sign a long-term lease, my friends boss has a yearly lease on a BMW, costs alot, but i suppose they are the boss so they can afford it lol. Check Avis, Hertz, Thrifty, they are the main car rental businesses in Australia that i can think of. Good Luck enjoy ur trip :)

If you're only spending three months - you can check out wicked campers - sleep in the van and save on accom or join the website travelpod the forum is a great guide (free) and ask actual travellers - I think three months when buying doesn't give you much time or experience to resell the vehicle before you head off.
