Do you know why you going? Do you brush your teeth? Do you need a cleaning? Do you have cavities? Do you drink a lot of soda and eat candy? Do you need braces?

there are various complications that can occur if you don't go to a dentist for check ups and cleanings (every six months). For starters you can lose your teeth to dental decay, you can end up with horrendous tooth aches, you can get abscess's there was recently, a few weeks ago, of a 14 year old boy that died from an abscess traveling to his brain, no joke. Excessive dental decay can cause you so much pain that you wont be able to eat. If you've never been to a dentist you need to go, not ALL dentists are evil, they have come a LONG ways, there really should not be much pain involved at all, if they have to give you anesthetic they will give you enough so you don't feel any pain and don't have a problem with giving you another shot until the pain is gone (the shots are not that bad it's a tiny prick and if you're scared of needles you can tell the dentist that before hand and they will make sure you dont see the needle. If you go to a dentist and are not comfortable there LEAVE go to another one, I promise you not all of them are the devil incarnate, I know from experience...horrible dental experience as a kid scard me for a LONG time, until I had to go to the dentist to get a tooth extracted and the dentist turned out to be awesome and was more than happy to give good pain medication :-D. Remember to tell them that you are nervous and they will calm you down the assistants are more than happy to ease your way into getting everything done. Plus once you get everything done your mouth feels so much better and you'll feel better about yourself because you've conquered a fear. Also, you go to a Medical Doctor and they might tell you that you're going to die, go to a dentist and they wont tell you that (your wallet might think so though, the case of the young boy i mentioned had nothing to do with the dentist had to do with his mother not taking him soon enough because the other kids needed work done more so than he did, or so she thought)

It's someone having great dental problems who's writing. I know that going to the dentist could be a traumatic experience for someone, but having a good set of teeth is very important: if you don't have one, you risk to suffer a lot of headache and also back one, didn't you know? Many things depend on teeth, more than you could imagine.
Tell the dentist you're a bit nervous, although I don't think he/she wouldn't notice it by him/herself. While sitting on the terrible armchair, try not to think too much about what's going on in your mouth...

I was getting an extraction last year. My dentist managed to push one of the roots of the tooth up into my sinus so that I had an air connection between my nose and mouth. I was taken to hospital and underwent a painful two hour operation that evening - fourteen stitches in my mouth. I'm glad I have private health insurance. If I had been on the NHS I would have went on a waiting list. This would have allowed growth over the hole, and a more arduous operation later.
Hope your dental appointment goes ok though.
