1881 it would depend on where. There should be bits of records somewhere or references to records. Can you tell more to give a better idea what resources we could guide you toward?

1881: For instance in some places divorces and marriages were published in the news. There also may be an obit for the first husband. Vital records' keeping was only beginning to be established in the US. Did she lose a veterans' pension by remarrying? Some documents can still today only be found in the local county courthouse or historical records.

You have at least 2 census dates between there 1891 and 1901 you could try and find her on there even if she married again you could do a search on first name and place and date of birth.
Try looking in the death registers for the death of your gr grandfather. Was there many children in the family you could get the birth certificate of their youngest child to see if both parents are named and if they are then you would have afar clearer idea of when to search for any deaths or divorces.

Try the mormons website, you can search records there & you may be able to find a marriage certificate - alternatively you could check if your great great grandad died in between those dates.

Another source is genesreunited who hav access to birth/marriage/death records & the census's done for that period. In those days it was very unusual to get divorced

Unlikely to be divorce in those days as it was a great social scandal and quite rare. More likely to be widowed and remarried. Try government records and censuses.

Before just ASSUMING, that your great-grandparents were divorced, PLEASE check the records at your local parish CHURCH! There IS a possibility, that her FIRST husband DIED, at a fairly young age! You may find the OTHER information that you seek, in the SAME PLACE, and, at the SAME TIME!
