For adapose tissue (fat) the answer is 3500 calories per pound of body fat. For lean body mass, and I mean muscle here, the calorie load per lb. of muscle is 2800 to 3500. The variation comes from the amount of water in that pound of muscle, calorically dense muscle 3500 per/lb. has less water, while 2800 dense muscle contains more water.
