I have a rag doll .My Mia is a big girl. All rag doll are very large cats. You girl is about right. I don't know why they call them rag dolls because a rag doll is limp and Mia is far from limp! She is very solid! Aren't they just the sweetest cats? When she run's to the door to greet people they often say "That isn't a cat that's a dog in a cat's Body!"
She stands her ground! She never run's and hides, like most cat will do, after all this is her home, right?

I am a Ragdoll breeder and know firsthand how large the breed can get especially the males... that being said every cat is an individual and you would be best talking with your vet about his overall condition at his next visit (if there are no other health concerns). Additionally a Ragdoll is supposed to have a fat pad on their lower abdomen so if he has just that fat and seems generally slim otherwise it sounds like you just have a good sized cat on your hands... put your hands on your cats sides and run them down his body... can you feel his ribs without too much effort? does he have a waist from looking from above?-both signs that his condition is appropriate. Another question for you would be how old is he? The ragdoll breed does not gain their full size, weight, or coat until they are between 3-5 years old. They are a LARGE breed! If your vet does think he is obese (or if you cannot feel ribs, cannot see his waist from above, and see a large amount of fat hanging down and swinging back and forth as he walks) then you can try to cut back on his food... best way is to feed by measuring and not free feed. Start cutting back gradually and through consultation with your vet decide on his appropriate amount of food for your cat... it may be less than the amount that the bag says, my vet has a saying that goes something like the dog and cat food companies are out to sell food suggesting that they want your cat to eat more :( Good luck! My female ragdoll, Jewels, is 16.5 lbs. I took her to the vet 3 weeks ago. The vet told me she was overweight. He said they should be no heavier than 10lbs. I freaked out first, even though I knew they are typically large cats. So I came home, got on-line immediately and found out that it is normal. Personally, I don't think my vet has ever seen a ragdoll before, so what does he know!

I know she has a ton of fur.... but you should be able to feel the ribs underneath (not see them), and she should slim in at the waist when you look at her from the top. Google "body condition scores".

Yes, I think so - even if your kitty is a truly large breed. Why not get your vet to assess her weight? That way you won;t be left guessing.
