Upon news of the catholic church ending limbo...it makes me wonder if now God will say "oops" to all the supposed babies and children in "limbo" and just send them all up to heaven just because the church declared it. So where are all the other good people, are they damned too because they don't take part in a ritual as well? Not trying to hate religion, but you really see its pitfalls there. (Still have love for God, but I don't think God wrote all those rules)

Not trying to disrespect religion here, but honestly i can't stand religions who condemn "non-believers" or those who don't share their religion. (I know most Catholics aren't like that, but still seeing that I can't help but have something to say).

And yes I know "limbo" is a "waiting place", not hell, I do know the facts.

So then why does the news state about the catholic church ending it? I was raised catholic, was never taught it myself, but regardless of what church, sect, it still is non-sensical.

No, God didn't say "oops" to the babies and children in limbo. They have always been in heaven; but the Catholic church finally came to realize that they have been there all along. I think it's silly and foolish for humans to try to play God and say what the next world will be like; because no one knows for sure. I'm a practicing Catholic, but I really think the pope needs to remember that he's not God.

<> Limbo has NEVER been an element of Catholic Dogma. Purgatory, on the other hand, has always been and always will be an element of Catholic Dogma.

I try to stay away from the news. Did it really say the catholic church ended limbo? Let me know when they get the buddy Jesus thing going. I don't like to think not good things about people, but that catholic church, they scare me. And what bible do they read? Cuz it must not be the same one I've seen.

+ Limbo +

The Church has pondered the suggestion of Limbo for a few hundred years and has decided that it is not a good idea. Limbo was never official doctrine.

Jesus said, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved." (Mark 16:15-16)

For centuries, people have wondered about children who died before they were baptized. The Bible does not explicitly state that they will go to heaven.

Limbo was suggested as the place where unbaptized babies went when they died. This idea was never official Church doctrine and has been rejected.

The Church now says that it is not sure what happens to unbaptized babies when they die but she entrusts them to the mercy of God.

+ Baptism of Desire +

The Catholic Church believes that those who die never hearing of Christ but have sought the truth and does the will of God as they understand it can be saved. See Romans 2:13-16. This is called the Baptism of desire. (1)

If they died before Jesus died for our sins and opened the gates of heaven for us, then they waited in what is called in the Old Testament Abraham's bosom or Sheol.

Catholics believe that after Jesus died on the cross, he descended into Sheol, the place of the dead. While there He freed the holy souls who awaited their savior in Abraham's bosom. (2)

Then that means they've been lying all these years? What does God's word say about those who lie, they have no place in the kingdom of God, right? Now they have to get the rest of it straight, where all those who do not accept Jesus as their savior, which includes infants that can't make that choice, go. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 3:23. That is why, just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned, Romans 5:12. I don't see any exceptions in those verses.

Yes, the babies were not in limbo in the first place, the clergy merely admitted their past mistake. (hurrah, they finally learned to trust their own hearts). That theological hypthesis is just plain stupid. You think God can be so cruel to those innocents? If that theory is true, I'd sooner lead a rebellion against god.

You are not trying to disrespect religion?

The Catholic Church is trying to be honest and correct a mistake and you bet the world will be right there laughing just like they did to Noah. I am not Catholic but I am a Christian and applaud anyone who will stand up to the world and make themselves more like the Bible. I wish us protestants would do the same.

Just goes to show how much of church dogma didn't come from God, but rather was stuff men made up.

Maybe now we can get them to let priests get married, since that was made-up doctrine as well. Might save a lot of little boys from predatory priests.

One wonders whether God does *everything* the Church tells him to?
and how long before the Church gets round to outlawing hell also?

The days are coming when so many major declarations they did for people to blindly believe will come to its end. Finally the lies are being removed little by little AND A VERY SUBTLE WAY SO AS NOT TO BE DISCOVERED.
