I don't know to which you refer as "money -grubbing"?
Most churches in America are small, with less than 100 to 150 members. In a church of 100, 20% of these members would be under 21 years old and another 20% would be elderly, perhaps on fixed incomes. This would leave approximately 60 members of working age. Say that the median income of these 60 congregants was $35K/year and each gave 10% of their gross (that would be a tremendously generous congregation, BTW) would mean 60 X 35,000 X 10% = $210K. That would be $210K/ year for the church to pay its pastor including all his payroll taxes and benefits, pay all its utilities, the church's building costs and maintenance (plus mortgage or rent), support any mission or outreach projects (like feeding the homeless, preaching the Gospel to distant lands). Maybe this little church has a secretary or even a janitor they have to pay.
Do you think anyone in this scenario is "living large" off the congregation's dime? I don't think so. Perhaps the reason they ask the people to help out from time to time is that folks really don't give 10% off the gross and so that little church has to make do with only 2/3 of $210K which is only $140K.
God doesn't ask us to give because He needs to raise money, He asks us to give because it's His way of raising His children into grateful, mature Christians.

That's a misquote. It's actually ...the love of money is the root of all evil...
And each church is different some are 10% evil, some 50% evil, but none are 100% pure.

Its the WANTING of money that leads to evil.
As for the 10% offering thing, it is simply the church asking for donations. They dont recieve government funding.
Kinda like salvation army. They need to pay for many expences. Money is not evil.
BTW, The church has never been pure. Only Yeshua ben Yosef (Jesus) was perfect.

Love of money, not money itself. And the 10% is not ours or the church's, it's God's money. He is the one that requires us to give the 10% not the church.

Yes, that's a misquote.
It's "For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil"
TOTALLY different.
Churches should be condemned for taking people's money and giving nothing. The church still hasn't made up for the crusades, inquisition, killing scientists, or creationism.

That is why I do not go to church, because it is not God who asks for money, it is the church who needs the money. No where does GOD say pay to pray in any book. People are so conditioned to feel that if they do not pay, then they go to hell, or somewhere else. The churches are 100% pure, they are non-profit.....................?

I remember when my father used to make my sisters and I go to church. I hated it. Even when I was very young I thought something was amiss when I saw the minister's wife decked out in jewels and nice clothes, stepping out of their brand new Cadillac. I'm not saying all churches are like that, but I refused to go anymore. Taking 10% of my little allowance for the church was one thing, but buying nice new things for themselves with my money was another.

Once again, the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. We are to bring our tithes into our local New Testament church because God commands us to keep the house of God up. That is not evil, not tithing is evil. I give my tithes and offerings weekly and don't miss it, my paycheck I owe to God anyways.

THE LOVE of money is the root of all evil. Read it for yourself.
Selfishness.. Pride....
If you love money more than you do God.. than money is your GOD. which is evil.
Have a great day!

It's not really the "church" "taking" 10% of everyone's pay. This tithe is simply a return to God what he's given to us. Notice it's not a dollar amount but a percentage. It's not about the money but the return of thanks and gratitude, acknowleding that what we do have, and the 90% we do keep for ourselves, is ALL given by God and is God's anyway. It's just putting that faith and trust into Him that we give back some of what He's already given us, and know that we'll be taken care of regardless.
